The wonderful and thrilling musical universe of Toulouse’s experimental pop band Aquaserge sprawls across a number of influences and genres, from pop and 60s/70s rock to free jazz and noise. A supergroup of sorts, with an ever evolving cast of incredible musicians, they’ve released Laisse ça être earlier this year and we love the album to bits. Have a look at their recommendations for the festival, with a few words from the band.

“First of all, it’s very rare, and we are very happy to be invited to play at a festival with such a quality line up. Picking acts was no easy task…”

Juana Molina shares animated video for new single ‘In the Lassa’

Juana Molina - In the LassaJane Bone’s Adventures is the title of the short animated film that accompanies Juana Molina‘s wonderful new single ‘In the Lassa’, taken from her recently released album Halo. Molina unveiled the video in three parts over the last few days, and the whole effort, which unfolds like a video game, is now streaming. Opertura directs. Watch it below.

Halo is out now via Crammed Discs.

Juana Molina unveils video for new single ‘Lentísimo Halo’

Juana Molina - Lentisimo HaloWe’re getting excitingly close to the release of Halo, the new album from Juana Molina, following her 2013 Wed 21. After sharing a marvellous teaser video and the bewitching first single ‘Cosoco’, the Argentinian artist is offering another taste from the upcoming album, the eerily enchanting ‘Lentísimo Halo’. The song comes paired with a stunning short film directed by Mariano Ramis. Speaking about it, Ramis had this to say:

“I wanted the video to be an experience of beauty which illustrates the song, a portrait of the intimacy of Juana’s mind in that beautiful and strange house in which she lives. We shared several ideas, Juana told me something about the way glowing bones are related to the mythical ¨luz mala¨ in the deep night outside the city, I was quite familiar with those stories as a kid, so I connected a lot with that, it was very stimulating process, Robert Wyatt, Juan José Saer, symbolistic painting, structural cinema, there is a little of all that also.

The video is made with a very complex and laborious animation technique (involving an inkjet printer, laser film paper and soy sauce), which provides random accuracy in the detail of each frame. This randomness extracted from meticulousness allowed me to end up believing that what I was doing may make some sense.”

Watch the video below and make sure you grab Halo when it drops on May 5th via Crammed Discs.

In other related good news, and in support of the album, Molina has announced a string of European live dates in June, including a show in London on June 19th at Moth Club. Head over here for all her stops and more info.

As we had recently mentioned, and much to our excitement, the ever wonderful and talented Argentinian artist Juana Molina is ready to follow her incredible 2013 album Wed 21, which was one of our 15 Album Picks of the Year. The upcoming album, Halo, sees Molina continue an experimental path. Its twelve tracks “abound with hypnotic rhythms which seem to draw their energy from immemorial rituals;”, describes the album’s accompanying blurb. “With timbral explorations and ever-changing soundscapes; with mysterious lyrics often touching on witchcraft, premonition and dreams, always used as metaphors for emotional states; with voices which sometimes move away from word and meaning to be reduced to abstract phonemes and onomatopoeia.”

Halo features contributions from her longtime band members Odin Schwartz and Diego Lopez de Arcaute, and Eduardo Bergallo, and also Deerhoof’s John Dieterich who appears in a couple of tracks. The album will see the light of day on May 5th via Crammed Discs and Molina had previously offered a marvellous teaser video. Now the bewitching ‘Cosoco’ has surfaced as the first single from Halo. We’ve been listening to it over and over again. Here it is.
