Kikagaku Moyo announce new EP Stone Garden

Kikagaku Moyo - Stone GardenThere’s a new EP on the way from Tokyo’s psychedelic five-piece Kikagaku Moyo, following last year’s album House In The Tall Grass. Entitled Stone Garden, the upcoming EP drops on April 21st through their own Guruguru Brain. Improvisation continues to be a key element of the band’s sound, who on Stone Garden adopt a more experimental approach than in their previously song-based effort, describes a press release. “This record enabled the band to experiment not only with instrumentation but also atonality and a playful approach to mixing.”

Kikagaku Moyo are teasing the EP with the first single from it, ‘In A Coil’, an hypnotic and exhilarating track embracing a myriad of influences from classical Indian music and Krautrock to traditional folk and 70s Rock. Take a listen now.

To celebrate the release of Stone Garden, Kikagaku Moyo are embarking on a North American tour in May, before returning to Europe this summer for several live dates, including a show in London at Moth Club on June 20th. Head over here to check out all their stops and other info.

Kikagaku MoyoWe’re just over two weeks away form the release of House In The Tall Grass, the new album from Kikagaku Moyo. The Tokyo five-piece have been teasing the album with a series of singles and ‘Green Sugar’ is the latest cut to emerge from their forthcoming album. The song “was inspired by a morning walk”, said drummer Go Kurosawa. “It’s in three parts, expressing first a blizzard, then a gentle stroll in the woods finding birds, foxes and squirrels, and finally a descent into a bottomless cave.”
Listen to it below and watch out for the album release on May 13th via Guruguru Brain.

Kikagaku Moyo set to release new album House In The Tall Grass in May

Kikagaku Moyo - House In The Tall GrassTokyo’s psychedelic five-piece Kikagaku Moyo are gearing up to drop their new full-length album, House In The Tall Grass. Slated for a May 13th release via Guruguru Brain, the effort follows last year’s split 7” with Moon Duo.
Described as “perhaps the most refined example of their style to date”, the upcoming album sees the band continue to experiment and explore different genres and influences, from classical Indian music to Krautrock, from traditional folk to 70s Rock.

Ahead of the album’s release, Kikagaku Moyo have shared the sweet and serene first single ‘Kogarashi’. Vocalist/guitarist Tomo Katsurada explains how the song was born:

“I came up with the melody and rhythm of Kogarashi, when I was about to fall asleep at the park. It was a nice warm day in the Autumn to get stoned and pass out in the park. I remember I was surrounded by the multi-coloured dead leaves and felt warm when I woke up. But all of the sudden, Kogarashi (the Autumn wind) blew all of the leaves away. It was a beautiful and psychedelic Autumn moment.”

To celebrate the release of House In The Tall Grass, Kikagaku Moyo have announced an extensive European tour, kicking off in Berlin on May 20th and including a show at London Fields Brewery on May 26th.  Check all their dates and other info here.
