We’ve been eagerly waiting to hear new material from Oakland based outfit Mwahaha since their outstanding self-titled debut album came out. First self-released in 2011 and reissued last year through Plug Research, Mwahaha remains an absolute all-time favourite record well into this year.
They have been busy preparing its follow-up and finally we can rejoice, for they have just shared a colossal new instrumental track called ‘Wine Cooler’. A sonic wonderland, ‘Wine Cooler’ is gentle but powerful, dark but scintillating, delving into psychedelic krautrock territories full of melodic synth washes reminiscent of German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk. Drop what you’re doing and give it a listen now!
We've never kept our love for Oakland based psychedelic pop band Mwahaha a secret. Their mind blowing 2011 self-titled debut album, which was re-released last summer, remains an active favourite of ours. So we're excited to announce that this month's mixtape was handpicked by Ross Peacock, the band's vocal, synth, and drum-machine wizard. He lined up fifteen tracks that will take you on a journey through time and space, and then back. Enjoy the trip!
Mwahaha‘s eponymous debut album was reissued earlier this week, and coinciding with it, the Oakland based band unleashed a video for one of the album’s standouts, ‘Rivers and Their Teeth’. Shot and directed by Sylvain Chaussee, the video makes for a fitting kaleidoscopic visual addition to the track, with good doses of spaced out serenity. Check it out now.
Mwahaha is out now via Plug Research on double vinyl, CD and digitally
Oakland based psych pop rock outfit Mwahaha, a longtime favourite of ours, are re-releasing their outstanding self-titled debut album later this month via Plug Research. Mwahaha, which was originally released in December 2011 via the foursome’s own imprint Mwahaha Music, will be available on double vinyl, CD and digitally on March 26th.
Earlier today, Mwahaha confirmed they’ll be opening up for Sigur Ros on June 30th as part of the Eden Sessions at the Eden Project in Cornwall, UK. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more European dates.
Here’s a taste from the album, the excellent opening track ‘Swimmer’.
4-piece psychedelic pop rockers Mwahaha hail from Oakland, California. The band comprising Ross Peacock, brothers Nathan and Cyrus Tilton and James Murphy released their self-titled debut album yesterday (December 6th) on their own imprint Mwahaha Music.
Mwahaha, recorded and mixed by Eli Crews (Deerhoof, tUnE-YarDs), is heavy on vintage synths and drum machines. tUnE-YarDs’ Merrill Garbus teamed up with the foursome in ‘Love’, where she co-sings with Ross Peacock.
The last track on the album, ‘Bathynomus Gigantes’, is an epic 11 minute trippy number.
Check out below the array of distorted melodic layers on the first single ‘Rainbow Diamond’. You can listen to whole album and buy it digitally here. A double vinyl edition is expected soon.
