Following the excellent Shadow Expert EP released back in May, Philadelphia’s four piece Palm have announced their second album, Rock Island, due out on February 9th through Carpark Records. On the record, the band “produces evidence of a distinct musical language, developed over time, in isolation, and out of necessity”, describes a press release. It adds: “On the island, melodies are struck on what might be shells or spines. Rhythms are scratched out, swept over, scratched again. Individual instruments, and sometimes entire sections, skip and stutter. There is the sense of a music box with wonky tension or a warped transmission in which all the noise is taken for signal.”
Lead single ‘Pearly’ is now streaming and it comes with an accompanying visualizer created by Greg O’Connell. Check it out.
Fresh off the back of releasing their excellent EP Shadow Expert, Palm hit the road today for a string of shows across the US until the end of the month. The Philadelphia’s four piece has also announced a UK/European tour in September, including a show in London at The Montague Arms on September 19th.
To celebrate, Palm have shared an amazing video for the EP’s title track, with the four members as avatars inhabiting a kaleidoscopic and surreal world. The video was directed by JP Mayer and you can watch it below.
After sharing lead track ‘Walkie Talkie’, Philadelphia’s four piece Palm are teasing their upcoming EP again with the title track ‘Shadow Expert’. “Emotional yet clinical, wild yet contained,” describes a press release, “the sounds they offer are equally bizarre as they are pleasantly pretty.”
The 6-track EP arrives on June 16th through Carpark Records and it will be available in the usual formats, including a limited edition dark blue vinyl.
Take a listen to ‘Shadow Expert’ and ‘Walkie Takie’ below for a double taste of what you’re in for.
