Mixtape #111

With immense technical ability and creativity, Alexander Noice is one of the most interesting contemporary musicians out there. Over the last decade, Noice has played a vital role in the LA music scene and abroad, performing, recording and collaborating with a slew of artists and projects, including his own ensembles Falsetto Teeth and NOICE. A phenomenal composer, guitarist, producer and bandleader drawing from an amalgam of genres, from art-rock and jazz to minimalism, opera and electronic music, Noice released an exhilarating and inventive self-titled album last year, which made it to our Album Picks of 2019. So we’re ecstatic to catch a glimpse of his wide range of influences in this month's mixtape!

Mixtape #63

June couldn’t have started any better way: on the first of the month came the worldwide release of the entrancing album Dysnomia, where Dawn of Midi effortlessly bridge the chasm between electronic and acoustic. The tremendously talented trio, made up of pianist Amino Belyamani, double bassist Aakaash Israni and drummer Qasim Naqvi, with roots in Morocco, Pakistan and India respectively, also found the time to compile a mixtape for CTD. With their compositions being so heavily informed on wordly sounds, their mix delves deep into their influences and inspirations, racing through a multitude of genres and cultures. Enjoy!

To celebrate our fiftieth mixtape, we've turned to a band whose shows are like crazy birthday parties: The Octopus Project. The quartet, based in Austin, Texas, won us over a long time ago with their uniquely fun live shows and their exquisite, diverse and intricate compositions. We're very chuffed to present the splendid selection of tunes they've mixed for us. So loosen your tie, let down your hair and let's celebrate!

Mixtape #49

Earlier this year, we were stunned by the new album from Bristolian quartet Get The Blessing. They won us over with their wonderful blend of sounds drawing from jazz to pop and electronica. So this month we've asked them to put together our mixtape and even though they were busy (and still are) touring Europe, they obliged. And we're sure glad they did, press play already!
