This month's mixtape is curated by the one and only Waterstrider. Earlier this year, the Oakland based quintet released Nowhere Now, one of those rare albums in which pretty much every single song is an instant hit. Their distinctive sound, with unforgettable gliding vocals, intricate guitars and infectious grooves merges many genres in such a tight unit that we thought a mixtape would help unravel the wide array of their influences. Turns out, you can also boogie to it.
Earlier this month Waterstrider graced our ears with a brand new track, ‘Frayed’. The quintet have paired the track with an interesting video using pixilation. ‘Frayed’ will be released on June 23rd as part of a compilation from OIM Records. Here’s the video directed by Marta Dymek.

Last month Waterstrider teased their upcoming debut album, Nowhere Now, with the first single ‘White Light’. The Oakland five-piece released it as a double A-side, also featuring the marvellous ‘Calliope’. “‘Calliope’ is about a psychological battle with one’s muse”, explained lead singer Nate Salman. “Afraid of giving everything to the unknown force behind a creative process and exposing our hearts to the world, we shackle ourselves to routine experiences.”
Listen to ‘Calliope’ below and grab the album when it drops on April 6th in the UK and April 7th in the US.
Waterstrider first caught our ears a year ago with their cover of Little Dragon’s ‘Twice’, and the single ‘Redwood’. The Oakland quintet had previously revealed their plans for a debut album, and now we’re finally getting more details regarding this release. Entitled Nowhere Now, the album is set to drop later in the year. To keep us excited, Waterstrider are releasing ‘White Light’ and ‘Calliope’ as a double A-side single on January 29th. Lucky for us, we can already listen to ‘White Light’. Here it is.
