Yann Tiersen unveils first single from forthcoming album

Yann Tiersen - Midsummer Night

We’ve been eagerly waiting to hear a full taste of Yann Tiersen‘s upcoming new album, ∞ (Infinity), even more so as the French composer had teased the effort last month with a stunning album trailer. Conceived and recorded between Paris, Brittany and Iceland, ∞ (Infinity) features guest collaborations from Aidan Moffat and Amiina amongst others who contributed in their native language to some of the album tracks sung and spoken in Breton, Faroese and Icelandic.
‘A Midsummer Evening’ is the first wonderful single from the album to emerge. Tiersen explained how the track came about:

“The idea was to start with toy instruments as a reference to my early works, then manipulate the sounds electronically. Then I added a new layer of acoustic instrumentation, and repeated the same process. Finally I repeated the process once more with strings, so the whole album was a constant back and forth from acoustic to electronic to digital, and then back to analogue.”

∞ (Infinity) drops on May 19th in the UK/Europe and May 20th in North America via Mute. Now listen to ‘A Midsummer Evening’.

Yann Tiersen premieres animated video for ‘Another Shore’

Yann Tiersen

Skyline is Yann Tiersen‘s seventh-studio album, the follow-up to his 2010 Dust Lane. Skyline was released in Europe last October via Mute and is set for release in the US and Canada on April 17th via Anti- Records.

‘Another Shore’ is one of the tracks included in the album and it just received visual treatment.
In the words of Tiersen, ‘Another Shore’ “muses on a long melody with colorful sounds and lot’s of guitars, with light and dark dynamic. The distorted Toy Piano at the beginning is a reference to instruments that were used in my early albums – the distortion brings the old to the new.”

The new animated video was created by Ivan Rusev from a story by Gergana Zabunova. Speaking about the video, Rusev said “Yann really wanted something absurd for this video. A linear story that was simple but strange. It follows the story of an old lady waiting for a bus seemingly in the middle of nowhere where everything is maddeningly against her. Everyone in the video is out to get everyone else in their own little way, but they are all just as weak and silly as each other.”

The video was premiered by Under The Radar yesterday. Watch it below.
