We’re less than three weeks away from the release of Alex E. Ch\u00e1vez<\/a>‘s debut solo album Sonorous Present<\/em>. Following \u2018c\u00f3mplices de luto<\/a>\u2019 and \u2018The Shadow<\/a>\u2019, the talented multi-instrumentalist, producer, educator, and scholar is previewing the album with new single ‘catalina’. Of the track, Ch\u00e1vez comments:<\/p>\n

\u201cDelicate, brief, \u201ccatalina\u201d is dedicated to my older sister\u2014Catalina\u2014who was the fatal victim of domestic violence at the age of 18. A song of grief and regret, I lament not being able to say goodbye to her: \u201cinside of me, everything falls apart without you; rather than my own reflection, I see you in the mirror.\u201d I was eleven at the time, and this act of violence and loss deeply shaped my family history and my path as a writer.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
