Jackie Lynn previews upcoming album with new single ‘Dream St.’

Haley Fohr has embraced again her fictional alter ego Jackie Lynn, now reincarnated as a “lady of the road”, and announced a new album, Jacqueline. After sharing two exciting previews with singles, ‘Casino Queen’ and ‘Shugar Water’, and with the album now nearing release, Jackie Lynn entices us again a new single, ‘Dream St.’. The track has been paired with a video, shot by Tim Breene, who explained that “Jackie Lynn taxis through her past on the corridor of dreams. A vortex rippling on the windshield. A memory sparked in a cloud of smoke. Driven by unseen forces with an armload of flowers. This was shot on a screen and drawn on paper. Flat surfaces in deep space.”

Speaking about the track, Haley Fohr had this to say :

“I first wrote “Dream St.” as an ode to my favorite street in Chicago, Ogden Drive. It is one of the few streets in the city that runs on a diagonal. On a good day you can catch a nice steady flow and shave minutes off of your commute. It also used to be a part of Route 66. I can’t help but wonder if my very distinct attraction to the flow of Ogden isn’t correlated to the deep historic stream that has been going down on that specific stretch of land for decades.

‘In transit’ means to pass through, and often times it’s a situation where my body has no choice but to remain stationary, so my mind picks up the slack. In this moment of in-between-ness is where I am able to find my deepest imagination, my most intimate secrets, and my longest narrative. Everything about the making of ‘Dream St.’ was easy. I wrote it in a breeze, and we tracked it all live in an evening. Julie Pomerleau and Bobby Conn did a fantastic job with the strings, and the session was such a dream in itself…

Right now everything seems hard. In a time when we are all in our own cabins tucked away (yet in transit), I hope that this song can help alleviate any inner concerns one may have in isolation.”

Jackie Lynn shares second single off upcoming album Jacqueline

Haley Fohr has brought her fictional alter ego Jackie Lynn back to life as a “lady of the road”, with the help of Cooper Crain, Rob Frye and Dan Quinlivan of Bitchin Bajas. With a new album, Jacqueline, on the way, she had already shared the first single, ‘Casino Queen’, a killer song with a disco feel. Ahead of the album release on April 10th through Drag City, Jackie Lynn is giving us another exciting preview with new single ‘Shugar Water’, featuring Ben Chasny on lead guitar. “‘Shugar Water’ was designed to bring us all together. It is a calling for us all to drink from the same cup and allow ourselves to let go” noted Fohr. “Let us seek refuge in each other’s arms. Let us get lost on the byway of comfort and celebration. We need each other every day (even if our mind does not remind us of this every day). Do not get lost in your own soul! What if we are, after all, just different versions of the same person?”

‘Shugar Water’ comes with an accompanying video by Jacob Forman, who had this say:

“I can only imagine what the tiniest bit of celebrity feels like, so when given the character of Jacqueline, it kind of allowed me to project onto her my own anxieties about what growing stardom (or just progression in life) could do to me, or anyone really. The present is purgatory and the past is grainy, ugly, and violent. Shugar Water grounds and binds us. Thinking about all these things coupled with what I would do stylistically with the video, I felt particularly inspired by Lynch’s INLAND EMPIRE, Cronenberg’s VIDEODROME, and the films of Abel Ferrara.”

Haley Fohr announces new album as Jackie Lynn in collaboration with Bitchin Bajas

New music from Haley Fohr is always good news. The immeasurably talented and adventurous vocalist, composer, and producer behind Circuit Des Yeux is bringing Jackie Lynn back to life. The project emerged in 2016 with a self-titled documentary album portraying her outlaw cowboy alter ego and now, as a “lady of the road”, she moves the project forward. There is a new album on the way called Jacqueline, which also saw the project turn into a quartet with the addition of Cooper Crain, Rob Frye and Dan Quinlivan of Bitchin Bajas.

The news comes paired with the the first single, ‘Casino Queen’, a killer song with a disco feel, accompanied by a video co-directed by Haley and Krzys Piotrowski. She commented on it:

“‘Casino Queen’ showcases a night in the life of Jacqueline. The song and video follow the letting go of an individual’s underdog mentality, realigning it with the winner’s place. What does it take to refocus one’s internal mirror and become a Casino Queen? All in due time shall we each define ourselves prosperous by way of intuition, self belief, nearby shoulders, a bit of luck, and maybe a wig.”
