by

St. Barbe

stbarbeband.com

We’ve had a soft spot for St. Barbe ever since they landed on our radar. The London trio of James Maltby, Edwin Ireland and Floyer Sydenham have been steadily carving out their own lane in the UK’s jazz scene since 2021, honing a sound that threads together contemporary jazz, punk, math rock, hip-hop, electronica, and a wide range of other influences. Their self-produced debut EP Shapeless introduced a band unafraid of complexity, and with the recent Shoal EP, released last February, they continue to refine a sound that feels both meticulously constructed and alive in the moment, pairing technical ability with genre flexibility. We’re beyond excited to have St. Barbe at the helm of this month’s mixtape, with a selection of tracks exploring the myriad influences that help shape their own music. Press play and enjoy.
