Liars premiere loony animated video for new single ‘Brats’

‘Brats’ will be the second single lifted from Liars‘s sixth studio album, WIXIW, released last month via Mute. The new single will be released on 12″ and digitally on October 15th in Europe and a day later in the US.

Ahead of it, the threesome have just premiered an animated video à la ‘Looney Tunes’, directed by Ian Cheng.
Liars’ singer and guitarist Angus Andrew said he was “intrigued by Ian Cheng’s ability to re-imagine computer graphics that are as awkward and out of control as real life.” He added that “it’s unusual to see computer-animated, digital bodies with flaws that breathe, pulse, and bear traces of their imperfect analog origin and I’m honored that we could provide the inspiration for this very unique vision.”

Liars share second taste off upcoming album WIXIW

Liars‘ much anticipated sixth studio album, WIXIW,  is only a couple of weeks away from hitting stores.

The threesome released their first single ‘Number One Against The Rush’ last month and they’ve just offered another taste off WIXIW, ‘Octagon’.

WIXIW is read ‘wish you’ and singer guitarist Angus Andrew talking about the album title said “’wish you’ is a familiar and universal sentiment of longing and hope, but when misspelt becomes uniquely shrouded and difficult to interpret, which in many ways is representative of our music and the songs we wrote for this album”.

The first single ‘Number One Against The Rush’ will be released as a limited 12″ vinyl signed by the band this Monday May 28th. The single features remixes by Matmos and Vince Clarke and the exclusive b-side ‘We’ll Never Learn’.

WIXIW drops on June 4th in Europe and a day later in the US via Mute. Now get ready for the hypnotic and fierce new cut ‘Octagon’.

Liars unleash first taste from forthcoming album WIXIW

Los Angeles based art rock outfit Liars have been teasing a new album for a few months with sound and video snippets posted on their Tumblr.

The trio comprising Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross, have recently announced the title and release date for the album. WIXIW will be released on June 4th in Europe and June 5th in the US via Mute.

According to the press release, WIXIW “saw the band working more collaboratively than on previous recordings, and began when Angus Andrew and Aaron Hemphill moved into an isolated cabin in the mountains to begin writing.”
Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by the band and Mute’s Daniel Miller, WIXIW “is hard to shake, tough to pin down, and impossible to get out of one’s head even after an initial listen. Simultaneously the most accessible and most challenging release from these iconoclasts, it is both a summation of Liars’ work up to now, and a complete break from anything you’d ever heard the band do previously.”

Earlier today, the threesome shared ‘No. 1 Against The Rush’, the first single off the forthcoming album. You can listen to it on their facebook or check it out below. You can also check the trailer for WIXIW.
