Time Wharp releases double single Ingenue

Brooklyn multi-instrumentalist and producer Kaye Loggins aka Time Wharp is gearing up to release a full-length album, Spiro World, in early 2022 through Leaving Records. Preceding the album, Time Wharp has shared a staggering and hypnotic double single, Ingenue, described as “a two-track song document of transfeminine splendor showcasing the genre-shifting artist: modern spiritual synth jazz a la Terry Riley & Don Cherry via the title track, and kraut band recordings with friends in the tradition of Neu! via ETGSS.”

If this double single is anything to go by, we’re in for a treat when the album lands next year. Here’s ‘Ingenue’ .

We weren’t familiar with Bristol based group Tara Clerkin Trio up until now but they caught our ears on first listen, with their experimental and hypnotic compositions, flirting with a lot of genres like jazz, folk, dub, trip hop and downtempo electronica. With an eponymous debut album under their collective belt, the trio of Tara Clerkin and brothers Sunny-Joe Paradiso and Patrick Benjamin have announced their second release, a 4-track EP titled In Spring. The EP is described as “a record of subtle contrasts, experimental yet familiar in its intimacy, obviously modern though tied to certain lineages, and driven by a pop logic which is also free-form and seemingly improvised.”

In Spring arrives on October 1st through World of Echo but we can already get lost in their music with the magnificent and mesmerizing title track.

Wonky Logic’s Transdimensional Fuunk (Transposed For Human Consumption) EP out now

London based multi-instrumentalist, beatmaker and producer Wonky Logic is one hell of a prolific musician, known for his membership and collaborations with the likes of Nubian Twist, GEO, Steam Down, Nubya Garcia, Theon Cross, Wiyaala, Afla Sakey, K.O.G., and I.G Culture. Among his current projects, he plays in his own band with Nache as well as The General Elation Soundsystem and also plays keyboards for Bryony Jarmon-Pinto and synth bass with afrofuturism band ONIPA.

Last month saw him release a new EP entitled Transdimensional Fuunk (Transposed For Human Consumption), which follows last year’s debut album 0113. The 6-track EP sees Wonky Logic “continue to showcase his passion for wonky beats and swirling synths” and is fuelled by blistering funk, soulful grooves and his mastery of beats. “As a service to clubbers and dancers of Planet Earth, he translated his banging space funk for human needs”, describes the label. “From steamy and dangerous to subtle and soulful, it’s all on his extraterrestrial palet. “

For an infectious and electrifying taste of what’s on offer, take a listen to one of the EP’s tracks, ‘Andromeda Style Fuunk’.

The drum-and-sax duo have let loose ‘Shout Song’, the third single lifted from For A Brief Moment We Could Smell The Flowers. Speaking about the track, the pair comments:

“Shout Song is really a folk song. We were trying to combine a simple and direct lyrical line on the saxophone with a feeling of multiple melodic percussion parts being played on the drum kit. It’s a joyful noise for people to shake their body to.”
