Vula Viel unleash new video for ‘Zine Dondone Zine Daa’

Vula Viel are offering their first music video for the exhilarating and entrancing ‘Zine Dondone Zine Daa’, a track which can be found on their Good is Good album, released last year and available on their bandcamp.
The clip has been released ahead of the band’s UK tour this Autumn, which includes a date in London on 2th December at Rich Mix. Watch the video below, made by Louise Boer, and find the full list of dates straight after.

Dirty Projectors share first new music in four years

It’s been four full years since Dirty Projectors released their outstanding and critically acclaimed studio album Swing Lo Magellan, which was one of our Albums Picks of 2012, and the accompanying About To Die EP. Fortunately, the wait is finally over. Earlier this week, the Brooklyn outfit led by producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Dave Longstreth teased their first new material since then in a short clip shared on their social media. Now Dirty Projectors have released a brand new song, the beautiful and strange ‘Keep Your Name’. It comes with a fittingly stunning video co-directed by Longstreth and Elon Rutberg. Watch it. Now.

Watch the animated video for Tanya Tagaq’s single ‘Centre ft. Shad’

With her highly anticipated new full-length album, Retribution, nearing release date, Tanya Tagaq has shared a brilliant animated video for the second single ‘Centre’, featuring Canadian rapper and hip hop artist Shad. Sometimes a track hits us so hard that we just keep listening to it again and again, and that is the case with the mind-blowing ‘Centre’, a “hip-hop song about molecular biology and menstruation”.
Tagaq teamed up with fellow Canadian artist and musician Chad VanGaalen, who animated the video. Speaking about it, she had this to say:

“I always knew I wanted to work with Chad because I’ve admired his work from afar for years. I wasn’t expecting it to turn out this well, where he was going to exactly exemplify every single facet of what we were trying to express in an otherworldly, fantastically, logical dimension. I’ve never felt my work so accurately visually embodied.”

Aquaserge share video for ‘Les Plus Beaux Jours’

It has taken us a while to come across the music of Toulouse’s experimental pop band Aquaserge, but it’s no wonder we fell for it instantly. Last Friday saw them release Guerre EP, an EP featuring four tracks, each a universe on its own drawing from numerous and varied genres and influences.
The quintet had previously shared a video for the wonderful and exotic EP opener ‘Les Zouzes’. Now they have unveiled a new video for the closing track ‘Les Plus Beaux Jours’, a delightful love song, featuring longtime collaborator Eddy Crampes on vocals. The video was again directed by Olia Eichenbaum. Watch it below and make sure you grab Aquaserge’s Guerre EP.

Mica Levi & Oliver Coates announce collaborative album Remain Calm

Mica Levi of Micachu and the Shapes, and experimental composer and cellist Oliver Coates are two tremendously talented musicians whose paths have crossed many times in the past. Following an impromptu jam on Mica Levi’s NTS radio show, the pair continued to improvise together in a flat in south London. Remain Calm is the fruit of this collaboration, a full-length album set for release on November 25th via Slip.

Both hailing from a classical background, Mica Levin and Oliver Coates are also “keen to blur its lines into more contemporary styles like grime, techno and drone”, described the press release. “Shades of Iannis Xenakis, Aphex Twin, Burial and Scott Walker’s film music are suggested in certain passages, but the sum of its parts are a very singular soundworld and a stunning piece of work.”

Along with the announcement comes the first staggering single from the album, ‘Barok Main’. Take a listen below.

Brandt Brauer Frick unveil video for new single ‘You Can Buy My Love’

Berlin’s Brandt Brauer Frick, the outfit of Daniel Brandt, Jan Brauer, and Paul Frick, are set to release their fourth album, Joy, next month. The acoustic techno trio had previously incorporated vocals in their recordings, however Joy is “the first one to be truly vocalist-focused and song-centric”, explained a press release. This shift towards a more lyrically-based album is also thanks to Canadian poet-singer Beaver Sheppard, whose collaboration helped bring the album to life.
Joy saw Brandt Brauer Frick navigating through several genres and styles, including krautrock, punk, drum’n’bass, indie rock and new wave. For a taster of the album, have a gander at the excellent opening track, ‘You Can Buy My Love’, in the video below.
