With less than three weeks to go until The Dwarfs Of East Agouza‘s highly anticipated debut album is out, the Cairo based trio have shared a second single from Bes. Sam Shalabi (Land of Kush, Shalabi Effect), Maurice Louca (Alif, Bikya) and Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls, The Invisible Hands, Alvarius B.) had already enticed us with the album’s hypnotic and explosive opening track ‘Baka of the Future’. The driving and transcendental ‘Clean Shahin’ only heightened our anticipation for the forthcoming Bes. The effort is coming out as a double album on April 29th via Nawa Recordings. Now listen to ‘Clean Shahin أقزام شرق العجوزة – نضافة شاهين’.

Brandon Locher shares new single ’Medium Frequency’
Beautifully moving from start to finish, ‘Medium Frequency’ is the delicate yet powerful brand new track from Brandon Locher. The New York based multimedia artist and producer caught our ears a while back, with his work in other collaborative projects including The Meets and Stage Hands, and we’re pleased to see him following his very own solo path.
‘Medium Frequency’ starts out quietly, wrapped in mystique and delicacy, before blossoming into an ecstatic affair. Blending ethereal electronics with frenetic horns and gentle strings, the track cycles from moments of otherworldly beauty to ecstatic exuberance, and back again.
Locher’s new single also displays his versatile talent as a visual artist, with the stunning cover artwork having been drawn by him.
There’s more to come, according to him, and we’ll keep an eye out. Now listen to ‘Medium Frequency’.
Watch Melt Yourself Down’s video for ‘The God Of You’
Later this month, London based collective Melt Yourself Down will drop their second studio album Last Evenings On Earth. Slated for an April 29th release via The Leaf Label, it follows their widely acclaimed 2013 self-titled debut album.
Described as an apocalyptic album, Last Evenings On Earth is darker and even more powerful than their debut. “The need to dance is still there but now I’m feeling inspired by the idea of the city as a prism through which all kinds of global influences pass,” says the band’s founding member Pete Wareham. “Translation, immigration, overcoming obstacles – and most of all, human unity.”
The thunderous ‘The God Of You’ is one of singles extracted from the upcoming album and Melt Yourself Down have shared a video for it. Check it out below.
To celebrate the release of Last Evenings On Earth, Melt Yourself Down are playing a string of shows in the UK. Check all their dates below.
Listen to a new excerpt from Colin Stetson’s upcoming SORROW: A Re-imagining of Henryk Górecki’s 3rd Symphony
Colin Stetson‘s upcoming album SORROW: A reimagining of Gorecki’s 3rd Symphony, based on the Polish composer’s 1997 classic piece, is simply a dream of an album. Envisioned by Stetson for nearly two decades, the record is finally seeing the light of day on April 8th on his own 52Hz via Kartel.
The composer and sax magician had already enticed us with two staggering excerpts from the album. He’s offering another majestic taste from it, with a new excerpt from the third movement, ‘III (Extract I)’, featuring Stetson’s sister Megan on glorious vocals and Liturgy’s Greg Fox on drums. Being “the heaviest part of the symphony”, as the press release describes, ‘III (Extract I)’ combines classicism and black metal”. Listen to it now.
Holy Fuck drop brand new single ‘Xed Eyes’
As you may have noticed, we’re more than thrilled about the upcoming release of Congrats, Holy Fuck‘s first full-length album since 2010’s Latin. The Canadian 4-piece already got us salivating with the mighty first single ‘Tom Tom‘ and a couple of explosive video teasers. The album is described “as the moment when Holy Fuck take the chaos and craziness (and charm) that have always been at the heart of their band and not so much control it as concentrate it”. The press release adds that “now they’re heavier, wilder, leaner, sharper, more daring and more unpredictable than ever before”.
Congrats arrives on May 27th via Innovative Leisure and Last Gang. Ahead of it, Holy Fuck have shared another mind blowing track, ‘Xed Eyes’. Turn your speakers up, this is an absolute stormer of a tune.
In other related news, and in support of Congrats, Holy Fuck will embark on a North American tour in June and July. We’re keeping our fingers (and toes) crossed for a European/UK tour to follow.
OY tease new album with first single ‘A New Planet Is Born’
We’ve been hooked on OY‘s sounds and stories since we came across their 2014 album No Problem Saloon. So much so that back then, we invited Joy Frempong and Lleluja-Ha, who make up the outfit, to curate our monthly mixtape.
So we’re pleased to know they are getting ready to release a new album called Space Diaspora. Unlike their previous album, informed by the band’s travels in Africa, Space Diaspora finds the Berlin based duo soaring into a futuristic land. “They were accidentally projected into the future, on a planet named Space Diaspora, inhabited and terraformed by former earthlings”, says the press release. “Over there, OY discovered strange customs and lifestyles, interesting political processes, artistic practices and unheard-of sounds, which inspired them to write this new album.”
Space Diaspora arrives in September via Crammed Discs but we can already get a taste of what they’ll be throwing at us with the wonderful first single ‘A New Planet Is Born’. It comes with a video made by artist collective Zeitguised. Watch it now.
