Sasha Siem shares lead single off upcoming debut album

Sasha Siem - Most of the Boys

British-Norwegian composer and singer-songwriter Sasha Siem boasts an impressive CV, having composed for the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, amongst others. March 2nd will see the release of her debut album, Most Of The Boys, via Blue Plum Records. The album was written in Berlin and recorded at Reykjavik’s Greenhouse Studios, with Valgeir Sigurðsson (Sigur Ros, Bjork, Bonnie Prince Billy, Feist) on production duties. The album’s blurb describes it as a song cycle. “Its twelve songs are as linked by their themes as by the sonic world they inhabit – born of an unlikely collusion of influences that Siem has woven together: her years spent composing and performing award-winning contemporary classical music; her fascination with likeminded lovers of innovative songwriting and unusual arrangements and her youthful love of the canon of great songwriters that emerged in the 1960s.”

Sasha has recently unveiled ‘So Polite’, the first marvellous single off Most Of The Boys. Here it is.

In support of the album, Sasha Siem is set to play in London at The Lexington on March 25th.

Inventions announce new album Maze of Woods

Smith of Explosions In The Sky, came to life in 2013 and the pair released their self-titled debut album last year. They are ready to follow it up, having just announced the release of a new full-length album entitled Maze of Woods. The album is inspired by the closing paragraph of Denis Johnson’s novella Train Dreams, where Johnson “describes the nonverbal howl of a feral wolf boy, a pre-language that is yearning and instinctual; a statement of wordless distress and love”, as the press release explains.
Maze of Woods is due out on March 16th in the UK via Bella Union and a day later in the US via Temporary Residence. Ahead of it, Inventions have shared ‘Springworlds’, the first wonderful and serene single. Take a listen now.

Rebekka Karijord - Use My Body While It´s Still Young

We Become Ourselves, the second album from Sweden based, Norwegian born singer-songwriter Rebekka Karijord, came out in Europe at the end of 2012. The effort will be released for the first time in North America on February 5th via Control Freak Kitten.

Karijord has unveiled a video to accompany the pulsating and warm first single ‘Use My Body While It’s Still Young’. Self-directed, the video features Siv Ander, a 75 year-old Swedish ballet dancer. Here’s what Karijord said about it.

“When I wrote the song I knew I wanted to have some sort of a visual contradiction to it, because of the quite direct lyrics and title. I imagined a sensual, older body expressing vitality and power. I find that older peoples sexuality and bodies, and a specially female bodies, are one of the last taboos in our very youth fixated society. “
