As we had mentioned in January, Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart have an eponymous collaborative album on the way, fruit of a week-long recording session in 2012. The album drops on April 14th via Secret City in Canada and Secretly Canadian worldwide. Suuns and Jerusalem In My Heart first enticed us with ‘Gazelles In Flight’ and now they are offering an accompanying video for the track, made with found footage. Charles-André Coderre directs. Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart announce collaborative album
When two brilliant outfits like Suuns and Jerusalem in My Heart team up, it’s reason to celebrate.
Ben Shemie, Liam O’Neil, Max Henry and Joseph Yarmush, who make up Suuns, and longtime friend Radwan Ghazi Moumneh of Jerusalem In My Heart rented a studio for a week back in 2012. “The idea was to collaborate on rough sketches of song ideas and to complete as much recording as possible without discrimination”, explains the press release. “The session was successful, yielding many vibe-laden songs featuring heavy analog synths, Arabic influences and electronic sensibilities.”
Both bands released albums and went on tour following these recordings, only to come back to them last summer, when they overdubbed and re-worked the songs. The result will drop in the form of self-titled collaborative album, on April 14th via Secretly Canadian and Secret City. Speaking about it, Suuns’ Shemie said “It’s not a Suuns record, it’s not a Jerusalem In My Heart record. It’s really a product of 5 musicians that had spent a lot of time on tour listening to music together.”
To get us enticed, Suuns and Jerusalem In My Heart are offering a first tremendous taste from the upcoming release. Listen to ‘Gazelles In Flight’ now.
Jerusalem In My Heart share new taste from forthcoming debut album
With just over a couple of weeks to go for Jerusalem In My Heart to drop their debut full-length album Mo7it Al-Mo7it, the Montreal based performance collective dropped another single from the upcoming album. We had previously heard the thrilling first taste ‘Yudaghdegh el-ra3ey walal-ghanam’, and now the outfit of Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, Jérémie Regnier and Malena Szlam Salazarof shared the album’s arresting opener ‘Koll lil-mali7ati fi al-khimar al-aswadi’, which translates into “Speak of the Woman in the Black Robe”.

Jerusalem In My Heart set to release debut album in March
Jerusalem In My Heart is the Montreal based performance collective formed in 2005 by Lebanese artist Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, currently also comprising French musician and producer Jérémie Regnier and Chilean visual artist and filmmaker Malena Szlam Salazarof.
The result of their two-year collaboration exploring a relationship between music, visuals, projections and audience comes in the shape of a full-length album entitled Mo7it Al-Mo7it, which means “Ocean of the Ocean” according to the outfit’s own poetic interpretation. The press release explains that “the numeral 7 is pronounced like an h; all titles on the album are rendered in contemporary colloquial “mobile” Arabic (the transliterative characters used in Arabic phone texting)”. Mo7it Al-Mo7it is described as “a unique and profoundly emotive album of contemporary Arabic music” where Jerusalem In My Heart “forges a modern experimental Arabic music by wedding melismatic singing in classic Arabic styles and electronic compositions with contemporary electronic production”.
The album is slated for a March 19th release via Constellation Records and pre-order is now available.
