Mixtape #174

aekerymusic.com

Known for her thoughtful, genre-blurring work that blends storytelling, jazz, and cultural history, immensely talented vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Amanda Ekery has steadily built a reputation as a distinctive and fearless voice in contemporary music. Her latest album, Árabe, instantly captured our ears and hearts earlier this year. A powerful and deeply personal exploration of cultural heritage, identity, community, and history, it weaves together music and storytelling inspired by Ekery’s own Syrian and Mexican roots, and spans genres like country swing, mariachi, jazz, Americana folk, and improvisation. We’re thrilled to have her curate this month's mixtape, with a selection of tracks from Árabe as well as music from some of the brilliant collaborators who helped shape the album, including Andrew Boudreau, Jess Tsang, Jhoely Garay, and Emily Johnson-Erday. Press play and immerse yourself in Amanda’s world.
