Britain will hold a EU referendum on 23rd June and in the run-up to it, Gruff Rhys is wholeheartedly endorsing a continued membership of the European Union. The Welsh musician has unveiled ‘I Love EU’, a brilliant and funny new song, praising Europe and the good and diverse things the EU offers. ‘I Love EU’ is “a love letter to an idea that crosses international borders”, says the press release. “It puts forward the long overdue and much-needed positive case for staying the European Union.”
Here’s what Gruff Rhys said about ‘I Love EU’:
“This song genuinely came to me in a daydream whilst I was trying to tune in my faulty DAB radio. I heard a snippet of news about this badly timed referendum on staying in/leaving the EU and suddenly it hit me hard how much I’d miss it if the UK managed inexplicably to kick itself out. It’s basically just an attempt to make an emotional case for Mother Europe – this flawed, fantastic, potentially Utopian mega-club that I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in.”
Out today digitally, ‘I Love EU’ comes with a fittingly amusing video. Check it out below.
