Listen to KAU’s third single ‘morph_303’

KAU have dropped their latest single, ‘morph_303’, the third preview from their upcoming album Unknown Waveforms, following previous singles ‘4U’ and  ‘dive_deep’. ‘morph_303’ it’s named after one of the hidden patches in Jan’s synth, giving the track a secretive feel. “Propelled by a hypnotic bassline and gritty drum patterns”, as the press release describes, “the song radiates a sense of forward motion and euphoria, while the squealing synth line evokes a UFO-like atmosphere”. Listen to ‘morph_303’ below and look out for the full album on October 10th through Sdban Ultra.

Last month, KAU hinted at their next album with ‘dive_deep‘. Now the Brussels-based trio of Andre Breidlid (drums), Matteo Genovese (bass) and Jan Janzen (keys) has officially announced Unknown Waveforms, due on October 10th through Sdban Ultra. Drawing from jazz, hip hop, and electronic influences, Unknown Waveforms came to life out of extended jams with minimal overdubs, embracing analog warmth and chance. The album is described as “a statement of intent: a celebration of imperfection, creative honesty and an insight in the process.”

Alongside the album news, they’ve slipped in a second preview with ‘4U’, a slower and more intimate track, and even more pared-down than its predecessor. “Anchored by a looping, pitch-shifted vocal from bassist Matteo Genovese whispering ‘I’m here for you'”, as the press release describes, “the track resonates like a mantra — soft, steady, and reassuring”. It’s “wrapped in atmospheric synths, grounded in earthy grooves, and carried by KAU’s signature moog bass,” crafting space for stillness and connection. ‘4U’ speaks volumes in its simplicity. KAU unveil new single ‘dive_deep’

Following last year’s Kaugummi / Mad Kau 7-inch single release, and 2023’s The Cycle Repeats, which was one of our Album Picks of the Year, Brussels trio KAU return today with a new single, ‘dive_deep’. Stripping back the high-energy urgency of previous releases in favour of a more more introspective and spacious approach and refined production, the new track signals a striking evolution in their sound and songwriting. “We wanted to challenge ourselves to explore what lies beneath the surface — in music, in relationships, in life,” the trio explain. “It’s about digging past the noise of everyday life and holding on to what truly matters.”

The track also hints at what’s to come, with more music expected later this year, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on what comes next. Now listen to ‘dive_deep’.

KAU unleash new single, ‘Kaugummi’, from forthcoming double A-side 7-inch vinyl

We’re excited to know KAU have new music on the way, following their debut full-length album, The Cycle Repeats, which was one of our Album Picks of 2023. The electrifying Brussels trio of Andre Breidlid (drums), Matteo Genovese (bass) and Jan Janzen (keys) are set to release a limited double A-side 7-inch vinyl in September. Drawing from elements of jazztronica and acts like Yussef Dayes, corto.alto or Flying Lotus, KAU blend British jazz with the vibrant ‘Brussels sound’ to create something diverse and deeply grooving, capturing the visceral energy of their live shows.

Set to drop on September 13th through Sdban Ultra, the double single features ‘Kaugummi’ and ‘Mad Kau’. ‘Kaugummi’, which means chewing gum, marries a dub-influenced bassline with brisk drum rhythms, creating a track that’s both hypnotic and invigorating. ‘Kaugummi’ is also KAU’s most recent original track and you can listen to it below.
