We first got acquainted with Yalla Miku through their self-titled debut album, and have been following their adventurous musical journey ever since. Born out of Geneva’s vibrant underground scene, the project was first conceived by Bongo Joe founder Cyril Yeterian and drummer Cyril Bondi, and brings together musicians from different backgrounds and corners of the world, with a shared appetite for experimentation and an open-ended approach to making music. Their sound weaves together influences from East African and North African traditions, as well as the experimental sounds of their hometown, moving freely between krautrock, post-punk, Afro-funk, dub and electronic music. Now a five-piece, also comprising Samuel Ades Tesfagergsh, Louise Knobil and Emma Souharce, they released 2 last year, a bold and exhilarating second album that we simply cannot put down. We're thrilled to have Yalla Miku take over this month's mixtape with a special selection of tracks, offering a little insight into the wide-ranging musical influences that feed into their own work. Press play and enjoy!
