Aquaserge turned our heads with Laisse ça être, which came out earlier this year through Crammed Discs. The album track ‘Si loin, si proche’ has been paired with a fitting video directed by Amic Bedel and Benjamin Glibert. The song title, which translates to ‘so close, so far’, is central to the video. The effort is presented as a split screen with two takes, a close shot and a wide one, performed and shot live and at the same time. Here it is.

In other related good news, Aquaserge are back on the road this Autumn for a string of shows across Europe, including a show at Birthdays in London on September 21st, at Liverpool International Festival Of Psychedelia on September 22nd and at Utrecht’s dream of a festival Le Guess Who? on November 11th. Aquaserge‘s new album, Laisse ça être, came out earlier this year and we love it to bits. The band will hit the road this Thursday for a string of dates in mainland Europe and the UK. Our highlight will undoubtedly be a triple-header show at London’s Corsica Studios on June 27th, with the Toulouse quintet sharing the bill with Laetitia Sadier and Vanishing Twin.

Toulouse’s Aquaserge are something very special and we simply can’t put down their recently released album Laisse ça être. On the back of it, the quintet have shared a video for the album’s track ‘L’ire est au rendez-vous’. The track takes its name “from one of the first coded messages used by the French Resistance”, explains the press release, “who broadcast them via the BBC as signals for triggering clandestine actions (most famously just prior to the Normandy landings)”. Engaged in a reckoning of the current state of things in France and also worldwide, the lyrics translate these “into obscure, poetical lines, as if they were bottled messages sent to whoever is intent on resisting”. Aquaserge had promised a new album this year and comes February 3rd, their long-awaited Laisse ça être will see the light of day through Almost Musique and Crammed Discs. Preceding the record, the Toulouse based quintet released last September their Guerre EP, a magnificent four-song EP, each song a universe on its own.

“Coded messages, anadiplosis and automatic writing, dance music grooves peppered with rhythmical and metrical twists, shades of Italian or French film music, a dense political and poetic subtext” are the ingredients behind Laisse ça être, describes the press release.

‘Virage Sud’ is the first single lifted from the album and it serves as a luscious taste of what they’ll be throwing at us. The track comes with a video, directed by the band’s bassist, Audrey Ginestet. Check it out below.
