After sharing the intoxicating and hypnotic lead single ‘500 gr.‘, Belgian instrumental outfit ECHT! are teasing again their upcoming debut album, Inwane, with a new track called ‘Charlier’. “On that one we love how the trippy vibe is increased by Federico Pecoraro’s unreal bass solo”, comments the band. “On top of it, crazy production moves by Rowan Van Hoef open another dimension .” ‘Charlier’ comes with an accompanying video made by Toxic Motel. Watch it below and watch out for the release of Inwane on September 24th through Sdban Ultra.
Belgian instrumental outfit ECHT! got our full attention a couple of years ago with the release of their first EP, DOUF. They are ready to follow it up with their debut album this Autum. Entitled Inwane, the effort arrives on September 24th through Sdban Ultra. Martin Méreau, Dorian Dumont, Florent Jeunieaux and Federico Pecoraro, who make up the band, had this to say about it:
“For our first album, we wanted to go into deeper beats. We were listening a lot to trap, gritty hip-hop & bass music, and we tried to emulate those kinds of beats on our instruments. The darkish mood of those music genres was fitting for us with this strangest year of 2020. But we also wanted to give a contrast with some brighter parts, where the human feeling is more present. This duality continued in the mixing process by pushing or destroying some sounds, adding electronic textures & effects, but also keeping some sounds really acoustic & organic. The result is for us a mature album: the feeling of electronic music emulated on instruments is confirmed but the human vibe stays central.”
Along with the news, ECHT! have shared the first single, ‘500 gr.’, an intoxicating and hypnotic track that heads straight to the depths of the dancefloor. Here it is.
There’s a new release on Belgian label Sdban Ultra that got our full attention, from instrumental outfit ECHT!. Made up of Martin Méreau, Dorian Dumont, Florent Jeunieaux and Federico Pecoraro, ECHT! are named after the word in brusseleir, a Brussels dialect, that means ‘vrai de vrai’, and translates as ‘true’ or ‘real’. The four-piece picked the name as they perform with conventional musical instruments and also none of them hails from Brussels. Reportedly drawing influences from genres like Electro, Hip-Hop, Psychedelic Groove, Footwork, Trap, Funk and Futuristic Jazz, ECHT! are set to release their debut EP, DOUF, next week. The EP was recorded over the course of three days in an empty space in Colfontaine, Hainaut, and as the press release describes, it features “8 tracks consumed as one continuous 16-minute mix of swirling beats and edgy offbeat rhythms”.
DOUF arrives on November 29th but we can already hear repeatedly the insanely good debut single ‘R2D2’. ECHT! had this to day about it:
“R2-D2 is the fruit of a night jam. We found that kind of sampled piano riff combined with space-full yet heavy hip-hop groove. We wanted to add some of our weirdest, most futuristic sounds (the name ‘R2-D2’ refers to one of those) and a robotic gimmick emerged. Then we alternated this part with a frenetic, condensed flow growing more and more to finally submerge you. This tune reflects our approach: we try to integrate the inhuman heritage of electronic music and “re-humanize” it in an instrumental performance”.
