Mixtape #145

Rosin de Palo are double bassist Samuel Azorín and drummer Mario Vidal, two incredible and adventurous musicians who have been shaking up the music scene in their native Spain and elsewhere. Classically trained, and drawing from wildly divergent genres such as funk, jazz, hard rock, dub, pop and electronica, Rosin de Palo’s music is wild, joyous, free, exhilarating and incredibly fun. The pair have earned a reputation for their scorching, visceral and powerful live performances. Last year they released their stellar debut, Lo que dura un recreo, which made it our Album Picks of 2022. So we're thrilled they put together this mix for us, unfurling nearly an hour of musical treats. Enjoy!

Mixtape #112

March is upon us and what better way to set the mood than with our monthly mixtape, this time round kindly curated by the amazingly talented drummer and composer Anton Eger. Whether you know his work with Phronesis or Marius Neset, or his many collaborations with artists like Django Bates, Daniel Heløy Davidsen or Ivo Neame, Eger is one of the most extraordinary drummers around. His eponymous debut album, Æ, released last year, has completely enthralled and enraptured us, merging retro influences with electronica and contemporary beats. Showcasing his incredible creativity and technical virtuosity, it's no surprise Æ made it our Album Picks of the Year. Needless to say, we're ecstatic to unveil his mix. Enjoy!

Listen to Thundercat’s collaborative track with BADBADNOTGOOD

Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion the label is releasing a special box set called Brainfeeder X on November 16th. The compilation features 36 tracks over two volumes, one “retrospective, the other comprises an unreleased future canon”, as the label described. ‘King of the Hill’ is one of the tracks featured, and it saw virtuoso bassist and vocalist Thundercat join forces with BADBADNOTGOOD, with Flying Lotus on production duties. Listen to it below.
