Anatolian psych-folk quartet Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek released last year DOST 1, the first of a two part album series. Its follow-up, Dost 2, arrives on November 11th through Les Disques Bongo Joe / Catapulte Records and the Hamburg based outfit is enticing us with the gorgeous and bucolic new single ‘Gümüş’, which means ‘Silver’. As the band describes, it “is used here to depict a particular state of the soul, between life and death”. The track comes with an accompanying video and you can watch it below.

Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek release new song ‘Deniz Dalgasiz Olmaz’
Following last year’s mesmerizing and powerful debut album Kar Yağar, which was one of our 15 Favourite Albums of the Year, Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek are back with new music. The trans-continental psych-pop quartet released last month a new single called ‘Deniz Dalgasiz Olmaz’, which translates as “The sea can’t exist without the waves”. Known for their transcendent mixture of influences and genres, from Anatolian roots music and 70’s jazz to early prog rock and funk, on the new track they “link past and future”, and continue “to take their sound to a new dimension”, as the press release describes.

With just over two weeks to go until the much anticipated release of Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek’s debut album Kar Yağar, the outernational psych-pop quintet let loose another stunning single off it, ‘Dom Dom Kurşunu’.

Fronted by Turkish singer and multi-instrumentalist Derya Yıldırım, and with members hailing from Germany, France, Italy and Great Britain, psych-pop quintet Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek are gearing up to release their debut album Kar Yağar. Translating as “Snow Falls”, Kar Yağar marvelously blends a mixture of influences and genres, from Anatolian roots music and 70’s jazz to early prog rock. The record, and as the press release describes, “has the dynamics of an epic journey through the Anatolian highlands where deep-rooted folk effortlessly switches to sparkly improvisation or dancy pop tracks.” Comprising original songs and instrumentals, Kar Yağar also features Turkish folk songs re-arranged by the band.
Ahead of its release on May 24th through Catapulte Records, Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek have shared a string of singles. Take a listen to the stunning and hypnotizing opening track “Üç Kız Bir Ana” and the album´s closer “Oy Oy Emine”. The latter, a cover of a traditional Turkish song, comes with a video by Agnieszka Gasiorek and Marcin Dominiak.
