Mixtape #156

Spanish quartet Melenas, comprising Oihana (guitar, vocals), Leire (bass), María (keyboards) & Lauri (drums), have been making waves since forming in 2016 with their energetic and compelling krautpop compositions. Hailing from Pamplona, they’ve been an integral part of the city’s underground music scene. Last year they released their incredible third album, Ahora, crystallizing the musical vibrancy they’re known for whilst taking a more nuanced and complex approach to their sound. We’re excited to have them curate this month’s mixtape, offering a glimpse into their diverse musical influences.

Mixtape #71

We’re big fans of Suuns, the Montreal based quartet of Ben Shemie, Max Henry, Joe Yarmush and Liam O'Neill. Over the last decade they have released two excellent albums and a collaborative one with Jerusalem In My Heart which made it to our Album Picks of 2015. The band's entrancing, eerie and pulsating sound incorporates a multitude of elements and genres, from psychedelic and post-punk, to art-rock, electronic and krautrock. With their third album, Hold/Still, due mid-April, we've been itching with anticipation. So we asked the band to put together this month's mixtape, and Joe sent us this treat. Dig in.

Mixtape #45

We've never kept our love for Oakland based psychedelic pop band Mwahaha a secret. Their mind blowing 2011 self-titled debut album, which was re-released last summer, remains an active favourite of ours. So we're excited to announce that this month's mixtape was handpicked by Ross Peacock, the band's vocal, synth, and drum-machine wizard. He lined up fifteen tracks that will take you on a journey through time and space, and then back. Enjoy the trip!
