Mixtape #157

An active and inventive band since the early 2000s, GaBLé craft music that bristles with a DIY spirit, unpredictability and joyful madness. After seven years, the French trio of Mathieu Hubert, Thomas Boullay and Gaëlle Jacqueline, returned earlier this year with PiCK THe WeaK, a new album which they composed and recorded over two years and is a testament to their singular musical universe, blending an array of instruments and genres with experimental sounds and playful charm. We're excited they put together this superb mix for us, curated entirely from their CD collection! Press play and dive into their kaleidoscopic sonic world of influences.

Mixtape #71

We’re big fans of Suuns, the Montreal based quartet of Ben Shemie, Max Henry, Joe Yarmush and Liam O'Neill. Over the last decade they have released two excellent albums and a collaborative one with Jerusalem In My Heart which made it to our Album Picks of 2015. The band's entrancing, eerie and pulsating sound incorporates a multitude of elements and genres, from psychedelic and post-punk, to art-rock, electronic and krautrock. With their third album, Hold/Still, due mid-April, we've been itching with anticipation. So we asked the band to put together this month's mixtape, and Joe sent us this treat. Dig in.

Yo La Tengo announce new studio album and EP

New Jersey’s legendary indie rock trio Yo La Tengo have announced the release of their fourteenth full-length album. The yet-to-be-titled new effort will arrive in January 2013 and it will be preceded by an EP entitled Stupid Things, which is due out on September 25th via Matador Records.

The EP, available as a limited edition 12″, will feature the title track, which will also appear in the forthcoming LP, but the EP version will have different vocals. Stupid Things will also include a remix by EYE of the Boredoms and a 12-minute long instrumental “awash with gorgeous “Autumn Sweater” style organ and some of Ira Kaplan’s most thoughtful and lyricalguitar improvisations yet” as the label described.

Whilst we eagerly wait to hear Yo La Tengo’s new cut, here’s ‘Here To Fall’ from their 2009’s Popular Songs.
