Mixtape #157

An active and inventive band since the early 2000s, GaBLé craft music that bristles with a DIY spirit, unpredictability and joyful madness. After seven years, the French trio of Mathieu Hubert, Thomas Boullay and Gaëlle Jacqueline, returned earlier this year with PiCK THe WeaK, a new album which they composed and recorded over two years and is a testament to their singular musical universe, blending an array of instruments and genres with experimental sounds and playful charm. We're excited they put together this superb mix for us, curated entirely from their CD collection! Press play and dive into their kaleidoscopic sonic world of influences.

Mixtape #118

A tremendously talented multi-instrumentalist and composer, Julie Carpenter‘s musical involvements include performing, recording and collaborating with an array of bands and projects, including Brian Jonestown Massacre, Eels and The Autumns, amongst others. Her move to Joshua Tree from LA, paired with her orchestral experience and electronica influences, gave birth to Less Bells, her sublime ambient orchestral project. She has just released her second album, Mourning Jewelry, an utterly engrossing and beautiful record that is both ominous and melancholic as well as contemplative and joyful. So it’s with immense pleasure that we present the mixtape Less Bells cooked up for us. Press play and let the magic happen.

Mixtape #65

Derbyshire based trio Haiku Salut conquered our ears with their sweet and quirky melodies and arrangements, crafted mostly using accordions, pianos, glockenspiels and ukuleles. Made up of Gemma and Sophie Barkerwood and Louise Croft, the band's two albums, Tricolore and Etch and Etch Deep, display their inventiveness and opens a window onto their unique and magical musical world, part folk, part classical and tinged with electronic influences. So we're thrilled to bits to start September with a marvellous mix of tracks picked by the band!
