Monolithe Noir releases fourth full-length album, La foi gelée

Back in 2022, Monolithe Noir, the project of Antoine Pasqualini, released Rin, a cosmically entrancing and groovy record inspired by the landscapes of Brittany that completely drew us in and ended up being one of our Albums Picks of the Year. Four years on, he’s back with a fourth full-length, La foi gelée, which just came out last week. Written and recorded between Brest and Brussels, Monolithe Noir’s new album is his most vocal and most direct to date. More emotional thematically, La foi gelée deals with grief, but it is also feels bright and alive. There is also a shift in the sound on the album. As the press release describes, “synths now intertwine with saturated guitars and bowed strings; the bass takes center stage, while the voice shifts between fragility and striking directness.”

Head over to his bandcamp to grab the album and check out ‘Long Bridge’, the stellar opening track below. A song about a urban chase of a lost animal friend, it is offered with an accompanying video.

La foi gelée is out now through Humpty Dumpty and Les cloches d’Atlantis.

Mixtape #139

A seasoned musician with a background in drumming, and membership in rock and pop groups, Antoine Pasqualini began releasing music under his Monolithe Noir moniker in 2013, coinciding with his love for modular synths. The project gives him freedom to push himsef further into uncharted territory and bridge his influences across prog, ambient, electronica, folk, and Italian library music. Later this month he is releasing his third full-length studio album, Rin, a cosmically entrancing and groovy record brought to life as trio. We couldn’t be more stoked to kick off the month with a rad mixtape put together by Antoine. Tune in and zone out.

Monolithe Noir set to release third album, Rin, this summer

There’s a new album on the way from Monolithe Noir, the project of Antoine Pasqualini. Entitled Rin, the album came to life as trio, with the Breton musician and producer joined by Yannick Dupont on keyboards and bass and Christophe Claeys on drums.
Rin means “secret” in Breton and was inspired by the different landscapes in Brittany. “Sunken paths, gnarled trees, chiseled coasts, moor, Brest, lonely villages, peri-urban areas, a nuclear power station in the heart of Monts d´Arrée”, describes the press release. “The rain rain and sun throughout the day.”

We’ll have to wait until August 26th for Rin to be out through Capitane Records but they have already let loose two cuts from it, the explosive and entrancing ‘Balafenn’ and the driving and groovy ‘Finvus’. ‘Balafenn’ comes paired with a stunning video filmed and edited by Monolithe Noir, and shot in Cap Blanc Nez. Here’s both.
