Mixtape #161

Marla Hansen is a musician you may not have heard of, but you almost certainly have heard her music on various releases, performances and collaborations with artists like Sufjan Stevens, The National, Jens Lekman, Jay-Z, Alice and Ravi Coltrane, amongst many more. A tremendously talented violist, violinist and singer-songwriter based in Berlin, in March she released her sublime second full-length album, Salt, delicately blending acoustic instruments with electronics. The compositions on Salt are both celestial and warm, and we find Hansen continuing to build on her distinctive musical identity, and showcasing her exceptional musicianship and unique voice. We are delighted to have Marla Hansen curating this month's treat of a mixtape, giving us a taste of her world of influences.

The band, a set of incredible musicians complementing each other perfectly, bring together an extensive range of musical genres to create a unique and exhilarating sound. Their intricate compositions incorporate elements of jazz, electronica, folk, math-rock and classical to name a few. And reflecting this healthy eclecticness, the mix they've compiled for us is a gift that keeps on giving, filled to the brim with incredible picks.

Mixtape #49

Earlier this year, we were stunned by the new album from Bristolian quartet Get The Blessing. They won us over with their wonderful blend of sounds drawing from jazz to pop and electronica. So this month we've asked them to put together our mixtape and even though they were busy (and still are) touring Europe, they obliged. And we're sure glad they did, press play already!
