Last month we heard the beautiful and delicate ‘Motion in Field’, taken from Finding Shore, the much anticipated debut album from Tom Rogerson in collaboration with Brian Eno. The incredibly talented composer and pianist has shared another sublime track from the record, the opener ‘Idea of Order at Kyson Point’. Listen to it below and grab Finding Shore when it’s out on December 8th through Dead Oceans.

Tom Rogerson will play a few select shows to celebrate the album’s release, including Mirrors this weekend, Le Guess Who? in Utrecht on November 10th and at London’s St Pancras Old Church on December 4th.

Tune-Yards announce new album and share first single ‘Look at Your Hands’

Three years have passed since Tune-Yards released Nikki Nack and it’s high time for a follow-up. The now duo of Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner have announced I can feel you creep into my private life, the band’s fourth album. The record arrives on January 19th though 4AD. As a sparkling introduction to the new record, Tune-Yards have shared the first single ‘Look at Your Hands’. Garbus said this about the song:

“Yes, the world is a mess, but I’ve been attempting to look more and more inward: how do all of these “isms” that we live in manifest in me, in my daily activities, interactions?

Some of the ’80s throwback production came from wanting the vocals to sound robotic, maybe to counter the sincerity of the lyrics. I started sampling my vocals in an MPC which I’ve wanted to do for years, and there was something that felt really right about my voice being trapped in a machine.”

Take a listen to ‘Look at Your Hands’ now.

In other related good news, and in support of the record, Tune-Yards have announced a North American tour in February/March 2018. The pair are doing a number of special preview shows this November and December, including Le Guess Who? on November 12th.

Samuel Hällkvist releases new album Variety of Rhythm

The unstoppable guitarist extraordinaire Samuel Hällkvist released his new album Variety of Rhythm last week. The third part of his Variety Of series, it follows 2012‘s Variety of Loud and 2015‘s Variety of Live. An adventurous and astounding 44-minute suite built around three movements, its pieces incorporate and journey through a broad spectrum of sound, both composed and improvised. Variety of Rhythm was recorded in Tokyo, Halmstad, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, New York, Paris and Malmö, between March 2015 and last January, and it features stellar collaborators aplenty, including guitarist David Torn, sax player Paulo Chagas, bass guitarist player Dick Lövgren (Meshuggah) and drummer Yasuhiro Yoshigaki, amongst others.
Variety of Rhythm is an absolute musical treasure that everyone should hear. To get you enticed, listen to two sublime pieces below, ‘Adagio Double’ and ‘Tete-a-Tete/ Blivet’. And visit VarietyOf.com for the full album and Hällkvist’s terrific insight into the technicalities of the record.

Now eight albums in, and having just released TFCF, Liars’ music has shifted from album to album, constantly taking exciting and unexpected turns. TFCF is the first record as the solo project of singer and guitarist Angus Andrew, who after living in New York, Berlin and LA, moved back to a remote part of his native Australia. We never know what to expect from Liars but we do know Angus and his new touring band will be tearing through a wild set spanning new and old material. And now we also know what Angus is looking forward to at Le Guess Who?.

“Margaret Chardiet is one of my favourite artists of the last few years. We actually played a festival with her in Beijing a couple of years ago but scheduling conflicts meant I couldn’t see her perform. I thoroughly hope things work out better at Le Guess Who? so I can finally witness what I’ve only been able to imagine.” Angus Andrew
