Beck releases brand new single ‘Defriended’

Beck - Defriended

Five years on since he dropped 2008’s Modern Guilt, Beck is back with not one but two new albums. Well, Beck did release an album last year, Song Reader, published by McSweeney’s and featuring twenty new tracks. Sadly it was mostly for the pleasure of those who can read music, as it came out solely in the shape of a sheet-music collection. First this autumn Beck will release an acoustic album reminiscent of his 1994’s One Foot in the Grave and he has also announced the release of a second album which will be the proper follow-up to Modern Guilt. Both albums will be released independently.
The man has recently shared an awesome synthy new single, ‘Defriended’, which will not be included in his forthcoming album, but it will whet everyone’s appetite. The single is available on 12” vinyl exclusively on his website, and it comes with a 14-minute extended B-side version. You’ll want it after you hear the original mix below.

Fuck Buttons drop video for lead single from upcoming third album

Fuck Buttons - The Red Wing

Last time we heard from Fuck Buttons‘ Benjamin John Power and Andrew Hung, they had released Tarot Sport, back in 2009. Slow Focus, their much anticipated follow-up album, will see the light of day on July 22nd via ATP Recordings.
Fully produced by themselves for the first time in their own Space Mountain studio, the pair kept their fundamental rule of writing together. “We are in the same room when we write”, says Power. “The rest is all fair game”. Speaking about the album’s title, Power described it as fitting the sentiment of the music. “It almost feels like the moment your eyes take to readjust when waking, and realising you’re in a very unusual and not a particularly welcoming place. There’s a brooding and almost violent theme throughout. We like to think that we create our own new landscapes, and with this it’s a very alien landscape.”

The first storming and hypnotic single taken from the album, ‘The Red Wing’, has just dropped last Monday on gold 12″ vinyl. Fuck Buttons are offering an edit of the track, make sure you head over here to get your hands on the proper 8-minute goodie. Hung has also filmed, edited and directed a video for ‘The Red Wing’, watch it below.
