Jono McCleery returns with third album Pagodes

Jono McCleery - Pagodes

We’re thrilled to know there is a brand new full-length album on the way from the immensely talented singer-songwriter Jono McCleery. Entitled Pagodes, it follows his majestic and widely acclaimed 2011’s There Is and it arrives on October 2nd via If Music.
His marvellous guitar playing and soulful and powerful singing shine even stronger in Pagodes. As the press release describes, “it’s an album that’s difficult to turn away from, full of beautiful melody, futuristic production flourishes and lyrics that don’t shy away from darkness, but always alight on uplifting conclusion.”.

We’re itchy with anticipation for the album to drop but we can already wrap our ears around the first single, an utterly beautiful interpretation of Robert Wyatt’s ‘Age of Self’. Here it is.

In other related news, Jono McCleery will celebrate the album release with a performance in London at Elektrowerkz on October 13th.

JD Samson and Young & Sick form Sharer and drop debut track ‘Body Tonight’

Sharer - Body Tonight

Meet Sharer, the new collaborative project of JD Samson (MEN / Le Tigre) and Young & Sick (Nick van Hofwegen). ‘Body Tonight’ is the first track they are letting loose, a dance floor banger you’ll want to hear over and over again. JD and Nick shared vocal duties with guests Jo Lampert (Tune-Yards, AVAN LAVA) and Xavier Smith. ‘Body Tonight’ will be released on August 21st, and it features a couple of remixes from LEFTI and Midnight Magic.

The pair offered some words on the project:

“I used to go see JD simply as a fan while living in London. Her live shows were always absolutely fantastic, leaving me a sweaty mess. When the opportunity arose for me to work with her, I jumped at it. A few months later, here is the beginning of our new friendship. I couldn’t be more excited to share it.” – Nick van Hofwegen (Young & Sick)

“Nick and I were matched up to write songs for other people, but after about two seconds of sharing, we knew what we had was something completely and utterly ours. Love and respect for your collaborators is so important, and working with Nick is such a beautiful expression of our mutual admiration. I love our process and can’t wait until the world gets to share the joy.” – JD Samson

Now listen to ‘Body Tonight’. You will dance.

There’s no stopping Yonatan Gat, and thank goodness for that. In addition to the recent release of Director, his debut album, and several live shows in Europe and North America with his trio, the inventive and prolific guitar virtuoso has a brand new release out. It includes an unreleased A-Side from Director, ‘Ascension’, and B-Side ‘Analog Gold Rush’ lifted from Gat’s upcoming Steve Albini engineered EP.
The release comes on a lathe-cut CD, a new hybrid format that can be played both on a turntable and in a CD player, one song for each format.
The record sold out in no time, but it’s also available digitally on his bandcamp. Now listen to ‘Analog Gold Rush’.

Midday Veil’s third album, This Wilderness, arrives in September

Miday Veil - This Wilderness

Earlier this month, Seattle’s Midday Veil announced the release of their third album, This Wilderness. It follows their 2013’s The Current and is due out on September 11th via Beyond Beyond is Beyond.
This Wilderness sees co-founding members member Emily Pothast and David Golightly, and core members Garrett Moore, Jayson Kochan, and Timm Mason, assembling a stellar cast of guests, including Bernie Worrell (Parliament, Funkadelic), Eyvind Kang and Skerik.

With the previous album, Midday Veil “could be viewed as the band emerging from their kosmische chrysalis, unfurling previously unheard banners of both colour and control”, describes the press release. It adds that their upcoming album “is the sound of the band under the self-imposed hypnosis of that emergence, extending the voyage with even more discipline than ever before”.

Serving as the album’s first taste, ‘Babel’ is a delightfully engaging track overflowing with rich instrumentation and a mesmerizing vocal delivery. Undoubtedly one to listen to again and again.
