Juana Molina returns with new album

Juana Molina - Wed 21

Argentinian multi-talented and inventive artist Juana Molina has not released an album in five long years. This Autumn will see the end of this hiatus as she returns with a new full-length album called Wed 21, the follow up to 2008′s Un Día.
Slated for a October 28th release via Crammed Discs, Wed 21 was composed, performed, recorded and produced by Molina in her studio in Buenos Aires.
Molina, who has on previous albums chosen to be more minimal, using mainly guitars and layers of vocals, this time ventured to enrich Wed 21‘s musical spectrum with the addition of electric guitars, bass, drums and electronics, as the press release notes. “In some of the tracks, Juana comes as close to a pop song format and to a full band sound as she ever did… while some other pieces are sinuous excursions through gamuts of feelings & textures”.

‘Eras’ is the first delightfully jubilant taste to emerge and it’s clear evidence that Wed 21 will be an album to look out for. Listen to ‘Eras’ below.

Julianna Barwick premieres video for ‘One Half’

Julianna Barwick

Back in June, we were dazzled by ‘One Half’, the first single lifted from Julianna Barwick‘s forthcoming third album Nepenthe. ‘One Half’ is now being offered with a befittingly stunning video directed by filmmaker Zia Anger. Here’s what Zia said about it:

“Julianna’s music, to me, evokes such a supernatural mind state – an existence that is without a principal body of laws. Because of this I wanted to make something that was lawless, that indulged the subconscious and also remained unexplainable. I’m fully aware of how tripped out this sounds but what is a music video if not at it’s core something without rules.”

Watch the video below and watch out for the release of Nepenthe on August 19th in Europe and a day later in North America via Dead Oceans.

Heavenly Beat announces new album and shares first single

Heavenly Beat - Prominence

Heavenly Beat, the solo project of former Beach Fossils’s bassist John Peña, has announced the release of a new full-length album. Prominence, the follow up to his 2012’s debut album Talent, drops on October 15th via Captured Tracks.
Lyrically Prominence is “a very direct look into someone dealing with poor body image (Thin), infidelity (Honest) and emotional/ physical/ sexual recklessness (Prominence)”, as the blurb that accompanies the release explains. “It’s not asking or answering any questions. Just existing within itself, fully aware of its shortcomings.”
‘Complete’, a feel-good summery track, is the first single taken from Prominence. Listen to it below.
