Halo Halo to re-release debut EP

London based inventive sinawi pop threesome Halo Halo first came under my radar after seeing them playing live a few weeks back.

Named after a Filipino icecream, Halo Halo consist of Rachel (Banjo / Vocals), Jack (Drums /vocals) and Gill (every other instrument).

Their debut 7″ Manananggal came out through Savoury Days last summer and it’s being re-released on April 24th via Portland’s M’Lady Records. It includes the joyful b-side ‘Sunshine Kim’. Hit the label link to pre-order it.

As the label puts it, ‘Manananggal’ and ‘Sunshine Kim’ are “two wild numbers that will ricochet around yr noggin for the rest of the year.” Listen to them below.

Kid A teases new album BLCKRSECHLL

Kid A is the nom de guerre of Virginia-born producer and songwriter Anni T who draws inspiration from jazz, electronic minimalism, post punk and Shibuya-kei.

Last year Kid A released a self-produced imaginary Japanese soundtrack entitled PPPoney OST. Head over to her bandcamp to stream/download it.

Kid A announced the release of her full-length debut album BLCKRSECHLL (Black Rose Chill), due out later in the year.  The album, completely written and produced by herself, was recorded in Paris with French producer Agoria.

Whilst we wait for a taster from BLCKRSECHLL, enjoy ‘BB Bleu’, a track off PPPoney OST. Kid A described the track as “an addictively smooth electronic, Gainsbourgesque tale about love and regret.”

Yann Tiersen premieres animated video for ‘Another Shore’

Yann Tiersen

Skyline is Yann Tiersen‘s seventh-studio album, the follow-up to his 2010 Dust Lane. Skyline was released in Europe last October via Mute and is set for release in the US and Canada on April 17th via Anti- Records.

‘Another Shore’ is one of the tracks included in the album and it just received visual treatment.
In the words of Tiersen, ‘Another Shore’ “muses on a long melody with colorful sounds and lot’s of guitars, with light and dark dynamic. The distorted Toy Piano at the beginning is a reference to instruments that were used in my early albums – the distortion brings the old to the new.”

The new animated video was created by Ivan Rusev from a story by Gergana Zabunova. Speaking about the video, Rusev said “Yann really wanted something absurd for this video. A linear story that was simple but strange. It follows the story of an old lady waiting for a bus seemingly in the middle of nowhere where everything is maddeningly against her. Everyone in the video is out to get everyone else in their own little way, but they are all just as weak and silly as each other.”

The video was premiered by Under The Radar yesterday. Watch it below.

Greenpot Bluepot’s new LP Ascend at the Dead End out in April

Greenpot Bluepot - Ascend at the Dead End

Greenpot Bluepot is the solo project of  New York based avant-garde experimentalist Natalie LeBrecht.

April 3rd will see the release of her new LP Ascend at the Dead End. LeBrecht performed and produced the album and she brought in Matt Mannelli and Animal Collective’s Avey Tare to co-mix it.

Here’s what the issued press release says about it:

“It’s both Greenpot Bluepot’s liveliest record to date and the most disorienting thing you’re likely to hear any time soon, a party with tiny mutated creatures writhing right under the dance floor. The idea, LeBrecht explains, was to make pop music with the tools of experimental music, or vice versa. (A lot of the album was written in microtonal tunings; some of it was composed over the course of many months; some of it, including the closing “Melting Sword,” was improvised.) The closer attention you pay to its songs, the richer and more complicated they get.”

Before Ascend at the Dead End drops, check out one of its offspring, ‘Royal Parade’, and the carnivalesque video directed by Tara Subkoff.
