Jon Porras films video for track from forthcoming new album

San Francisco based Jon Porras, who is also one half of guitar drone outfit Barn Owl, is set to release Black Mesa, his new solo LP.

The album was recorded by Porras at home and in his practice space over the course of ten months.
Black Mesa is intended as a reflection on desolation and the search for light in a barren land” says the press release. “Featuring seven composed tracks of meditative electric guitar embellished with improvised atmospherics and white light feedback, the album follows an outlaw wanderer who ventures deep into the desert only to discover the Black Mesa, a bridge between worlds (as related to string theory or multiverse theory).”

Black Mesa will hit stores on April 17th via Thrill Jockey and pre-order is now available here.

Jon Porras filmed a video on Super 8 for the opening track ‘Into Midnight’. Check it out below.

Seluah return with new LP Red Parole

Seluah - Red Parole

Andrew Killmeier (guitar), Matt Johnson (guitar), Edward Grimes (vocals, drums) and Andrew Peace (bass) make up Louisville, Kentucky based outfit Seluah.

The quartet, who last released a self-titled EP a decade ago, is set to drop a full-length album entitled Red Parole.

The forthcoming album will be available digitally and on CD on April 10th and on vinyl on May 8th via Karate Body Records. Hit the link to pre-order the album.

“The bulk of the record reflects an early ’70s mammoth guitar aesthetic, both fuzzed out and sweetly melodic, punctuated by mesmerizing vocals that glide over each track” says the label press release. “Red Parole is a heavy, noirish guitar album and comes with a mandate to be played loudly”.

Back in January Seluah shared the first single off Red Parole,  ‘The Other Side Of the Gun’. Their latest offering is ‘Sail Straight Into The Bombs’, a track “mapped by an insistent Rhodes that’s engulfed by huge walls of guitar and a mile-high snare drum”. You can listen to both tracks below, and remember to set the volume up.

First taste from Extra Life’s forthcoming album Dream Seeds

Brooklyn based art rockers Extra Life are set to release their third full-length album Dream Seeds.

Now a trio, Extra Life were formed in 2007 by multi-instrumentalist Charlie Looker, former member of Zs and Dirty Projectors.

Dream Seeds drops on April 10th in the US via Northern Spy and on May 7th in Europe and Japan via Africantape. Just hit the links to pre-order it.

The 7-track album deals “entirely with the twin themes of dreams and children. In a lyrical left turn away from the morbid sexuality and black humor of Made Flesh, these songs look to the subconscious in search of innocence, morality and meaning” says the label’s blurb. “According to principal songwriter and elementary school teacher Charlie Looker, the lyrics began with a consecutive series of harrowing dreams involving children, all interconnected by recurring symbols. Claiming to be in some way spiritually reborn, Looker penned the songs while mining these dreams’ buried pasts and even watching in awe as some of their prophesies unfolded in all-too-real life. Alternately brutal and tender, haunted by ghosts of both the dead and the unborn, the songs of Dream Seeds express the violent yet redemptive collision of the Real and Psychic Worlds and an archaic belief in the divine truth of dreams.”

‘Righteous Seed’ is the first single off Dream Seeds and here it is.
