K-Holes premiere video for new cut from forthcoming somophore album

New York 5-piece K-Holes are set to release Dismania, their second full-length album.

Dismania comes packed with the same kind of sinister, feverish punk skronk the New York quintet (featuring former members of Golden Triangle and the Black Lips) is known for.” says the press release. “It’s a dark, brutal, menacing trip; the sound of escape with the sheen of redemption, fueled by the low, thundering beat of tribal divination.”

The quintet’s new effort drops on May 1st via Hardly Art and it can be pre-ordered now.

K-Holes premiered yesterday a cinematic video for ‘Window In The Wall’, a track lifted from Dismania.  Filmmaker Sebastian Mlynarski directed it and you can watch it below.

Liars unleash first taste from forthcoming album WIXIW

Los Angeles based art rock outfit Liars have been teasing a new album for a few months with sound and video snippets posted on their Tumblr.

The trio comprising Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross, have recently announced the title and release date for the album. WIXIW will be released on June 4th in Europe and June 5th in the US via Mute.

According to the press release, WIXIW “saw the band working more collaboratively than on previous recordings, and began when Angus Andrew and Aaron Hemphill moved into an isolated cabin in the mountains to begin writing.”
Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by the band and Mute’s Daniel Miller, WIXIW “is hard to shake, tough to pin down, and impossible to get out of one’s head even after an initial listen. Simultaneously the most accessible and most challenging release from these iconoclasts, it is both a summation of Liars’ work up to now, and a complete break from anything you’d ever heard the band do previously.”

Earlier today, the threesome shared ‘No. 1 Against The Rush’, the first single off the forthcoming album. You can listen to it on their facebook or check it out below. You can also check the trailer for WIXIW.

Box set of unreleased tracks by Can arrives in June

Legendary and influential krautrock outfit Can are releasing The Lost Tapes, a 3-CD box set featuring unreleased studio and live material and also soundtracks of films that were never completed.

Can’s keyboard player Irmin Schmidt and Mute’s Daniel Miller curated The Lost Tapes and Jono Podmore helped to compile and edit it.

The material was found after the Can studio in Weilerswist was sold to the German Rock’ N’ Pop Museum.

“Whilst dismantling the studio, master tapes were found and stored in the Spoon archive. With barely legible labeling, no one was sure what was on these until Irmin Schmidt and long time collaborator Jono Podmore started to go through over 30 hours of music.” says the issued press release.
“What they found was years of archived material, not outtakes, but rather tracks which had been shelved for a variety of reasons – soundtracks to films that were never released and tracks that didn’t make it onto the final versions of albums due to space.”

The tracks were recorded between 1968 and 1977 with Can members Holger Czukay on bass, Michael Karoli on guitars, Jaki Liebezeit on drums and Irmin Schmidt on keyboards, and vocals from Damo Suzuki and Malcolm Mooney on most tracks.

The Lost Tapes will be released on June 18th in Europe and a day later in the US via Mute.

The first taster from this upcoming collection is the excellent and groovy opening track ‘Millionenspiel’. Enjoy.
