Lali Puna - The BucketLali Puna are and always have been one of our favourite bands and we’ve been waiting with bated breath for a follow-up to their 2010 record Our Inventions. September will finally see the release of a new full-length album called Two Windows through Morr Music. After sharing the first spellbinding single ‘Deep Dream’ last month, Lali Puna are giving us another thrilling taste of what’s to come with new single ‘The Bucket’. The track is being offered with a video directed by the band. Watch it below and watch out for the release of Two Windows on September 8th.

Lali Puna have also announced plans to celebrate the album release with a European tour this Autumn, including a show at London’s Oslo on October 23rd. Take a look at all their stops below:

Fold share title track from upcoming Written In The Sky EP

Fold - Written In The SkyFold had hinted at a new release earlier this year and as promised a new EP is on the way. The Leeds based quartet announced the release of Written In The Sky, a four-track EP due on September 22nd. The EP follows their 2015 self-titled album which was one of our Picks of the Year then and remains a favourite.

Known for their commitment and engagement in social justice causes, themes of equality and unity continue to be reflected and central to their music. As with previous efforts, on the upcoming EP Fold used vocal samples from historical speeches to convey their messages, including Lorraine Hansberry and Fred Hampton. In addition to the vocal samples, Written In The Sky features live singing for the first time, with the band enlisting several guests on vocal duties.

Fold are teasing the EP with the title track and we can’t stop listening to it. Stream it below and pre-order Written In The Sky on their bandcamp.

The Weather Station announces eponymous album and shares first single ‘Thirty’

The Weather Station – ThirtyThere’s wonderful news from The Weather Station, the project of incredibly talented singer/songwriter, lyricist and multi-instrumentalist Tamara Lindeman. She has announced the release of a self-titled and self-produced album, following her 2015’s magnificent Loyalty. “I wanted to make a rock and roll record,” Lindeman explained, “but one that sounded how I wanted it to sound, which of course is nothing like rock and roll.”

The Weather Station arrives on October 6th via Paradise of Bachelors. Ahead of it, she’s offering the first marvellous single ‘Thirty’, “a song about joy at the precipice of despair”.

In support of the new album, The Weather Station is returning to Europe this Autumn for a string of live dates, including a show in London at The Lexington on October 23rd. Head over here to check all her dates and other info.

BIG|BRAVE announce new album ARDOR

BIGBRAVEMontreal trio BIG|BRAVE have announced a new album following their majestic, fierce and poignant Au De La, released a couple of years ago. Entitled ARDOR, the new effort comes out on September 15th through Southern Lord Recordings.

With Radwan Ghazi Moumneh’s on recording duties, the upcoming album features guest contributions from violinist Jessica Moss, who had already guested on their previous album, and Thierry Amar of Godspeed You! Black Emperor on double bass.

Colleen announces new album A flame my love, a frequency and shares lead single ‘Separating’

Colleen - A flame my love a frequencyPrepare yourself for a new album from French multi-instrumentalist and composer Colleen. A flame my love, a frequency follows her 2015 album Captain of None, which was one of our 15 Picks of the Year. Slated for an Autumn release, the upcoming album saw Colleen steering away from previous acoustic recordings to embrace new sonic territories in the realm of electronics and trading her usual viola da gama for a Critter and Guitari Synth.
With the relation between life and death as a core theme, A flame my love, a frequency is described as a record “that finds optimism in the face of tribulation, a meditation on humanity’s ability to prevail.”

The album will see the light of day on October 20th through Thrill Jockey but we can already hear the first enticing single ‘Separating’. The song, as the press release says, ” is an emotional response to being overwhelmed by the inevitability of death”. We’ve been playing it on a loop and can’t wait for October to come.

Balmorhea’s sixth album arrives in September; watch the video for new track ‘Sky Could Undress’

Balmorhea - Clear LanguageIt’s been a while since Balmorhea released new material but there’s a new album on the way from the Austin, Texas based duo of Rob Lowe and Michael Muller. The follow-up to 2012’s Stranger, Clear Language, arrives on September 22nd through Western Vinyl.
On Clear Language, the pair goes back to the simplicity of their roots. “They eschewed complexity for complexity’s sake, allowing a watery, sand-hued mood to settle over their use of analog synthesizers, piano, vibraphone, electric and bass guitar, violin, viola, field recordings, and, for the first time in the band’s history, trumpet,” describes the label. “A relaxed, clear-eyed sense of reflection flows gracefully through the album as these two old friends transmit unfettered meaning through simple sonic gestures that resonate with the cosmos as much as they echo the pulse of a human heart.”

Balmorhea had previously shared the album’s opener and now they are offering another gorgeous taste with a new track, ‘Sky Could Undress’. It comes with a video, the first of a Clear Language Film Trilogy by LA based artist Claire Cottrell. Check out both below.
