Waterstrider share second single ‘Calliope’

Waterstrider - Calliope

Last month Waterstrider teased their upcoming debut album, Nowhere Now, with the first single ‘White Light’. The Oakland five-piece released it as a double A-side, also featuring the marvellous ‘Calliope’. “‘Calliope’ is about a psychological battle with one’s muse”, explained lead singer Nate Salman. “Afraid of giving everything to the unknown force behind a creative process and exposing our hearts to the world, we shackle ourselves to routine experiences.”
Listen to ‘Calliope’ below and grab the album when it drops on April 6th in the UK and April 7th in the US.

Dakh Daughters – Ukrainian Freak-Cabaret

Dakh Daughters - Ukrainian Freak-Cabaret

Don’t be fooled by the delicate porcelain doll face paint. Dakh Daughters are anything but fragile. On stage, this freak-cabaret group works themselves into a musical fervor, stomping and howling war cries. The seven woman are multi-instrumentalists and bounce between accordions, a double bass, xylophones, drums, and more. Talented, beautiful, and fierce, the powerful daughters of Ukraine.

2013 was a turbulent time for the country. The streets were packed with protesters in an uprising that led to the impeachment of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich. Despite sub-zero temperatures, heavy police presence, angry crowds, firecrackers, and tear gas, Dakh Daughters took to the stage and provided a soundtrack for the Ukrainian revolution.

The Holy Gasp share video for new single ‘A Daily Affirmation’

The Holy Gasp - A Daily Affirmation

Hailing from Toronto, five-piece The Holy Gasp describe themselves as “a damn-the-Man beatnik revival conga revolution, a boxcar and a jug of wine, a groove, daddy, and the farthest thing from a king sized bust”. Initially birthed by poet and composer Benjamin Hackman, The Holy Gasp turned into a quintet now also comprising Daveyoso, Sebastian Shinwell, Christopher Weatherstone and James McEleney.

The Last Generation of Love is the quintet’s debut album and we’re only a couple of weeks away from its release. As the quintet puts it,  the album “re-contextualizes beatnik aesthetics for the modern listener, and makes a desperate cry for humanity, for change–for people to not only care, but to see that to give a shit is profound”. Recorded by Josh Korody (Beliefs, The Dirty Nil, Dilly Dally), The Last Generation of Love is out on February 24th and it will be available digitally and also as a limited edition cassette via Arachnidiscs.

The Holy Gasp have recently unveiled a fittingly excellent and bonkers video for the new single ‘A Daily Affirmation’. It’s a jolly and contagious song and you’ll probably feel compelled to do anything good. Check it out below.
