Nils Frahm shares new video for ‘Says’

Nils Frahm - Says

The exquisitely talented composer, pianist and producer Nils Frahm has unleashed a befittingly stunning visual accompaniment to ‘Says’, a standout track from his recently released live album Spaces. The video was created by visual artists Romain Assénat and Ana Silva improvising on the spot with inks on glass and a video-feedback device without any post-production. Watch it below.

Spaces is out now via Erased Tapes.

Pillar Point drop new single ‘Cherry’

Pillar Point - Pillar Point

After two years in the works, the eponymous debut album from Seattle’s Pillar Point is dropping on March 3rd via Polyvinyl. Scott Reitherman, who leads the project, brought in longtime collaborator Charlie Smith to produce the album.
Pillar Point sees Reitherman venturing into more electronic and dancy territories. “Part of what steered me toward the textures and beats of dance music was the feeling of catharsis you can experience through dance”, explained Reitherman.

‘Cherry’, an ethereal synth-pop track lifted from the album, has just been unveiled. Listen to it beneath.

Liars announce new album and drop lead single

Liars - Mess on a Mission

Liars‘s latest album, WIXIW, came out in 2012 and it became a regular listening pick here at CTD. We’re thrilled to know they are ready to release the follow-up to WIXIW in just a couple of months. Mess will see the light of day on March 24th in the UK/Europe and March 25th in the USA via Mute.
As the press released describes, Mess “is Liars with their balls out – an angry, ecstatic, primal burst of ritualistic electronics that sacrifices self persecution for potent, purposeful abandon”. Singer and guitarist Angus Andrew, who also took on production duties for the album, explains:

“We are a reactionary, or maybe a better word is schizophrenic band. We go from one extreme to the other. Working on the last record was really doubtful and paranoid, and that’s fine, but it just meant that when work started on this one, it was the exact opposite. It was way more instinctual, fun and confident.”

Ahead of the album’s release, Liars are releasing the lead single ‘Mess On A Mission’ on March 18th. I first heard this track live last summer when the threesome premiered some new material at Primavera Sound Festival in Porto and it remains an unforgettable highlight. Even with my pretty badly sprained ankle, Liars’ tremendous live show and infectious sound made me dance till I dropped.
‘Mess On a Mission’ is an excellent, frantic and insane track. Play it loud and play it often, and watch the album trailer straight after.

Xiu Xiu share second single from upcoming new album

Xiu Xiu - Lawrence Liquors

Back in November, Xiu Xiu gave us the first taste from their forthcoming album Angel Guts: Red Classroom with the track ‘Stupid in the Dark’.
Marked by Stewart’s life in a dangerous Los Angeles neighbourhood, the album’s new single ‘Lawrence Liquors’ is unsurprisingly dark and creepy. Listen to it below and watch out for the release of Angel Guts: Red Classroom on February 3rd in Europe via Bella Union and February 4th in North America via Polyvinyl.
