Just over a couple of weeks ago, we were drawn to the psychedelic and fierce sound of Danish trio Shiny Darkly with the first epic single ‘Dead Stars’, taken from their forthcoming debut album Little Earth. No Science is the duo of Jukka Rintamäki and Johan Skugge, who met up in 2010 whilst composing the soundtrack for the video game Battlefield 3. Bonded over a shared artistic vision and ethos, the two Swedish musicians decided to continue writing music together and No Science was formed. Inspired by film and art, and the works of Lars Von Triers Riget, David Lynch and Joakim Pirinen, “they explore the spiritual effects of dark, beat driven melodic music – beyond science”, as the press release describes.

One of our absolute favourite albums released this year, Burn, comes from the hands of London based quartet Sons of Kemet. Hot on the heels of winning the MOBO award for ‘Best Jazz Act’, Sons of Kemet have unveiled a remix of ‘The Itis’ by Micachu. The original track is lifted from Burn. Listen to the remix below.

We’ve long been fans of Canadian sextet Royal Canoe. And we’ve long been fans of Danish trio Efterklang. The two bands crossed paths this last summer whilst playing in some of the same European festivals and Royal Canoe offered to rework one of Efterklang’s songs. The result is a dazzling and inspired remix of ‘Between The Walls’. The original track is featured on Efterklang’s fourth album Piramida, released last year.
In other related news, Royal Canoe are on the final leg of their European tour, which wraps in Manchester this Saturday November 16th. Go to see them live if you can, you’re in for one hell of a treat!

London based violinist and composer Anna Phoebe has announced the release of Between The Shadow & The Soul, her new full-length album slated for an April 2014 release.
Anna, who is know for her work with the likes of Jethro Tull, Oi Va Voi, Roxy Music, Jon Lord of Deep Purple, and Trans Siberian Orchestra, is teasing the forthcoming album with a four-track EP entitled Embrace. Limited to 250 copies, Embrace dropped today via Burning Shed. The effort is described as “an exotic collaboration of classical and Eastern influences with a unique rock edge”.
The stunning and fierce opening track ‘The Duel’ serves as the EP’s first single. Listen to it below.
