Plug Research re-releases Domenico’s debut album

Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Domenico Lancellotti, known simply as Domenico, has been part of many Brazilian musical and visual constellations for several years.
The prolific multi-instrumentalist and composer released his first solo album, Cine Privé, last year via Coqueiro Verde Records. The album, co-produced by Moreno Veloso and mixed by Mário Caldato Jr., has just been re-released via Plug Research.

Domenico composes music based on cinematic images of films that are yet to be made. Cine Privé, which translates to Private Cinema, is a vehicle for visual exploration, as the press release describes.

“I like music that was conceived to support a certain image or scene. In these cases, the music interacts directly with the nervous system.” said Domenico. ”When I’m going to record an album, I look for a “photo” that’s in line with the image [in my mind] I have for the album.”.

Cine Privé opens with its excellent title track and Domenico has recently unleashed a video to accompany it. Clara Cavour e Felipe Rocha directed it. Watch it below.

Family Photo release new EP

Sacramento based experimental pop outfit Family Photo have just dropped their second EP entitled Nude Celebz via Stereocure. The quintet’s new effort follows their self-titled debut EP, released earlier this year.

Inspired by Los Angeles where the EP was conceived and recorded, Nude Celebz sees Family Photo “translating into sound their shared experiences of a place where superficiality and great natural beauty coexist in abundance”, as the press release describes.

Exquisite, delightful and thrilling, Nude Celebz is far too good to be missed. You can grab it free or on a pay-what-you-want basis via the label or the band’s bandcamp.
Here’s an enticing taste from the EP, ‘Better Now’.

The Luyas unleash new video for opening track off Animator

The Luyas, the outfit of Montreal natives Pietro Amato, Mathieu Charbonneau, Bucky Wheaton, Sarah Neufeld and Jessie Stein, dropped their third album, Animator, last month via Dead Oceans and Paper Bag Records.

Animator was conceived right after a close friend’s sudden death and “is supposed to be some weird resuscitation.” as singer and multi-instrumentalist Jessie Stein explained. “The animator’s job is to create the semblance of movement in things that cannot move themselves. The musician’s is to make us feel like something is happening with a sound”.

The quintet are currently touring Animator across North America and will reach European shores later in the month. You can check all their stops here.

The Luyas have unveiled a mesmerising video to accompany the outstanding epic 9-minute opener ‘Montuno’. Mylene Simard directed it and you can watch it below. Straight after listen to the first single off Animator, ‘Fifty, Fifty’.

According to the press release, Hejira “cut their category destroying sound with psychedelic guitars, bisexual vocals and orchestral percussion, creating an atmosphere which is at once apocalyptic and hopeful”.
