Yann Tiersen to release new album in 2014, listen to a brand new track

Yann Tiersen

French composer Yann Tiersen has a new album in the works to follow up his 2011’s Skyline. The yet-to-be-titled new album was recorded between between Paris, Ouessant and Iceland and is due out in spring 2014 via Mute.
It seems like a long wait but we can already hear a taste of Tiersen’s latest work with an utterly beautiful new track that has just emerged called ‘Janet’, taken from a soundtrack he is currently scoring.

In other related news, Yann Tiersen is curating a Halloween event in Paris later this month, to commemorate the centenary of the Fantômas series, directed by Louis Feuillade. Tiersen is writing the scores for each of the five films from the restored Fantômasseries, which will run for six hours in the surroundings of the Théâtre de Châtelet, Paris, as the press releases notes. Apart from his own band, Tiersen invited a number of stellar guests to work with him, including James Blackshaw, Tim Hecker, Loney Dear and Amiina.

Now let yourself be absorbed by ‘Janet’, a slice of dreaminess.

Next in line for ‘In C’ did their job

light show

Terry Riley‘s legendary piece keeps inspiring and educating minimalists since 1968 when his first recording was out. Amongst many favourite versions are the ones performed by Steve Reich/Piano Circus, Bang on a Can and Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O., not to mention the ones orchestrated by Riley himself.

Yesterday Cast the Dice was a witness to a great spectacle at the Barbican when two other great musicians performed their interpretation of this crazy musical patchwork. First on the stage was Matthew Herbert & Stargaze and they were good. But when Pantha du Prince took to the stage with The Bell Laboratory they blew us away! Cymbals, Xylophones, Marimbas, Vibraphones and unnumbered crazy bells. All of that dressed with the legendary analogue king of psychedelic live AV shows – Joshua Light Show. Now waiting for the release!

Below is the official video for ‘Spectral Split’, a track Pantha du Prince & The Bell Laboratory played in the encore. They were so into it that they were asked by the venue to stop playing – the concert was getting too long! Shame!

Julianna Barwick - "Crystal Lake (Live At Judson Church)"

After releasing her second studio LP Nepenthe under Dead Oceans at the end of August this year, Julianna Barwick didn’t waste time and hit the road with countless live shows around the world. She will also visit Germany, Denmark, Portugal, Belgium and France. She teases us with the newly released video of her live performance at Judson Church in NY from the day Nepenthe was released.
