Hanne Hukkelberg’s first cut from upcoming fourth studio album

Hanne Hukkelberg - FeatherbrainNorwegian singer songwriter Hanne Hukkelberg moved to New York in 2010 to write new material. The outcome is her fourth full-length studio album Featherbrain set to be released next week.

Her previous albums show an incredible creativity and diversity in sound and Featherbrain is no exception.
Combining elements of her previous three albums, the press release states that “Featherbrain creates a kind of antique pop music, at the same time brittle and soft, powerful and fragile”. “Featherbrain is a risky album. Both dissonant and lyrical, it is music for headphones and notebooks. Itrs intimate, eccentric sounds demand your intimacy and your eccentricity, and the effort is rewarded: a personal and honest sonic world opens up, in fact, so sincere Hukkelberg had to toughen up to record it”.

Featherbrain drops on February 17th in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, February 20th in the UK and February 24th in Norway via Propeller Recordings.

The first offering from her forthcoming album is the dazzling track ‘My Devils’. Watch the video for this track below, courtesy of The Quietus.

Stealing Orchestra share new video for ‘Evitando o Cinismo’

Stealing Orchestra - Deliverance

Porto based Stealing Orchestra released their utterly beautiful third full-length album Deliverance last year after a 7-year hiatus.
Deliverance was released via their own imprint You Are Not Stealing Records.

According to an issued press release, Deliverance “celebrates a new attitude of the band, promoting a creative process involving several elements where it is impossible to distinguish between what are samples and what are the real instruments. The result is thus a more organic and fluid composition, which must be heard as a whole.”

You can stream the whole album via their soundcloud.

Today a new video for the opening track ‘Evitando o Cinismo’ surfaced the web. The video features images from short films by Brothers Quay and Jan Svankmajer. Check it out below and listen to ‘Finding the right Self-Schema (com Rodrigo Leão)’, the third track off Deliverance featured in this month’s mixtape.
Sit back and enjoy.

Step in the High Heels soundscape

The album On Square Waves by experimental rock outfit High Heels found its way into my inbox last weekend and I simply couldn’t resist to share it.

High Heels is the project of prolific American artist Austin Brown who now resides in Berlin. Before moving to Berlin, Austin played in several bands including WHY? and The Staggering Statistics.

On Square Waves is an album where “the rock songs are segued by 30 second instrumentals of unique aesthetics making it one continuous piece of music”.  The album was written, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered by Austin himself with contributions from Why?‘s Doug McDiarmid and also Wussy‘s Joe Klug on drums.

In the words of Austin Brown, the album “is an atmospheric rock record of detuned guitars.”

The 21-track album was self-released last December as free download, head over to his bandcamp to stream/download it.

Check out below ‘Pulses’ and ‘Dressed in Transparence’, two brilliant tracks off On Square Waves.
