We’ll have to wait until February 2nd for the album to be out through One Little Independent Records, but Delago is already enticing us with the first single and album opener ‘Modern People’, a track reflecting on the technology we have today and considering its relevance in 100 years’ time. Penguin Cafe share orchestral version of Penguin Cafe Orchestra’s ‘Perpetuum Mobile’

Following the release of their sublime album, Rain Before Seven…, Penguin Cafe have just dropped a new treat for us, in the shape of a single. Marking Penguin Cafe’s first-ever recording of Penguin Cafe Orchestra classic ‘Perpetuum Mobile’, the new single is a majestic orchestral rendition arranged by legendary British conductor and musical director Guy Protheroe and performed with The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Arthur Jeffes comments:

“This is one of my father’s most iconic pieces and it was a real joy to take it over to Prague and record with the Prague Philharmonic – doing it with a huge orchestra was something I’d always wanted to do. It gives it an even more cinematic feel and while it could never replace the original we’re overjoyed with how it came out!”

Düsseldorf-based composer, songwriter and experimental musician Hauschka has released ‘Inventions’, the new single from his forthcoming album Philanthropy, ahead of its release on October 20th through City Slang. ‘Inventions’ comes paired with an accompanying video directed by Wataru Sato and filmed around various locations in Japan. Of the video, Hauschka comments:

“The video provides a captivating glimpse into the multifaceted aspects of everyday life in Japan. It skillfully captures both the fast-paced, hyper-modern lifestyle and the serene moments deeply rooted in its rich history and culture, finding expression in poetry and carpentry. It showcases that there’s not one answer, and that joy and serenity can be found in everything, from arts and crafts to the meticulous work of a train conductor.”

Sato also had this to say about it:

“When people from all over the world think of Japan, they probably envision Tokyo with its towering skyscrapers. However, in this video, I’ve turned our focus to towns and individuals who hold their culture in high regard, and to those who, upon recognizing the beauty of this culture, create something anew. My intention was to highlight that these often-overlooked people and cultural aspects play a pivotal role in our society. With Japan’s diverse culture and landscapes, we hope that, through the medium of sound, it can be appreciated by audiences worldwide.”

November 3rd will see the release of Resavoir‘s self-titled album through International Anthem. In the works for over three years, the upcoming album saw the producer and composer Will Miller, who leads the project, enlist a stellar cast of collaborators from the Chicago music community, including Akenya, Matt Gold, Eddie Burns, Lane Beckstrom, Jeremy Cunningham, Irvin Pierce, Macie Stewart, Peter Manheim, Elton Aura, Whitney and more. As the press release describes, “Resavoir is a subtly radiant symphony interweaving modern-day soul-jazz with bedroom beats, synth serenades and twilight sonatas”.

Ahead of the album’s release, Resavoir have launched their new track, ‘Sunset’, the third single from their album, following previous singles ‘Sunday Morning’ (featuring Elton Aura & Whitney) and ‘Inside Minds’. ‘Sunset’ is offered with a stop motion video made by Toronto-based experimental animation artist and director Nik Arthur using glass and a handheld steamer. Speaking about the video, Arthur comments:

“As blue changes to yellow, orange, and then red, steam clouds roam around a window and form shapes, with the falling sun as their audience. Two frames pass for every one synth note, creating a feel of change as gradual as the song, and the sunset.”
