Mary Lattimore announces new album, Hundreds of Days, and shares first single

Mary Lattimore has announced the release of a new album, Hundreds of Days, which will be out on May 18th via Ghostly International. Involved in a multitude of projects, the LA-based experimental harpist has collaborated and recorded with the likes of Jeff Zeigler, Thurston Moore, Kurt Vile, Steve Gunn, M. Craft and Jarvis Cocker, amongst many more. Using effects and an improvisational approach, Lattimore is known for pushing the boundaries of her instrument. As with her previous recordings, usually connected to a location and time, Hundreds of Days is shaped by her new LA surroundings, having only recently moved there from Philadelphia. As the press release describes, “inside her music, wordless narratives, indefinite travelogues, and braided events skew into something enchantingly new.” Crafted in a redwood barn in San Francisco, Hundreds of Days “sojourns between silences and speech, between microcosmic daily scenes and macrocosmic universal understandings, between being alien in promising new places and feeling torn from old native havens.”

Distant Early Warning, the highly awaited debut solo album from Laurence Pike is nearing its release date and he first shared the tantalizing single ‘Life Hacks’. For an astonishing glimpse into it, watch the live video that accompanies the track, filmed at Golden Age Cinema in Sydney. Alex Smith directs.

In other related news, and to celebrate the album’s release, Laurence Pike is embarking on a European tour this April, with a free headline show at The Waiting Room in London on April 9th.

Poppy Ackroyd unveils new video for ‘Paper’

2018 started off magnificently with the release of Resolve, the marvellous new album from incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist and composer Poppy Ackroyd, who has been a firm favourite of ours over the last few years. Poppy has unveiled a new video to accompany the magical single ‘Paper’, directed by Tom Newell. Watch it below and by all means, embrace Resolve from the start till the end.

Aquaserge set to release new album Déjà-Vous? in April

It’s no secret we love Toulouse’s experimental pop band Aquaserge, whose latest album Laisse ça être, made it to our 15 Picks of 2017. Like on the record, they are a wonder to behold live, each and all of its five members effortlessly displaying their outstanding musicianship and improvisational sensibilities. So we’re excited to hear they have a new record arriving this Spring, Déjà-Vous? (‘you, already?’). Featuring live renditions of eight tracks, including four from Laisse ça être, the upcoming Déjà-Vous? is the fruit of recordings the quintet made during several shows in 2016 and 2017, some of which accompanied by a 3-piece horn section.

Preceding the record release on April 27th through Crammed Discs, and serving as a wonderful introduction to Déjà-Vous?, Aquaserge have shared their impromptu version of the 30’s popular jazz standard ‘My Funny Valentine’. We simply can’t stop playing it.

Christina Vantzou announces new album No.4

Christina Vantzou continues her staggering series of numbered albums, exploring and melding classical, ambient, and minimalism. She has announced a new album, No.4, following 2015’s widely acclaimed No.3.
A number of musical and conceptual collaborators helped bring the album to life, including Steve Hauschildt, John Also Bennett, Angel Deradoorian, Clarice Jensen, Beatrijs De Klerck, and members of Belgium’s Echo Collective. The upcoming No. 4, and as the press release describes, “feels both endless and ephemeral, immersive and immaterial”.

Ahead of the album’s release on April 6th through Kranky, we can already hear ‘ Some Limited and Waning Memory’, an utterly beautiful track, both soothing and compelling.

Mouse On Mars share second single ‘Foul Mouth’ from forthcoming album Dimensional People

After lifting the curtain on their new album, Dimensional People, and sharing the lead single ‘Dimensional People III‘ featuring Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, Mouse On Mars are getting us even more excited. Ahead of the album’s release on April 13th through Thrill Jockey, the duo of Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner have dropped a celestial new track, ‘Foul Mouth’, featuring Amanda Blank and Zach Codon (Beirut).
