Watch the animated video for Nils Frahm’s track ‘Re’

Nils Frahm - Re

Berlin-based pianist Nils Frahm has unveiled a stunning animated video for the delicate and delightful track ‘Re’, taken from his 2012 album Screws. When composing and recording Screws, Frahm used only nine fingers as his thumb was in a cast from an accident he had suffered. Hungarian director Balazs Simon draw inspiration from this to create the video.

“When I first heard Nils’ new album ‘Screws’ I instantly fell in love with it – not only because of the music, but also because of it’s backstory. Listening to ‘Re’ planted a story and a world in my head, so I decided to create a music video for it.”

Marco Benevento’s new album out in September, listen to the first cut ‘At The Show’

Marco Benevento - At The Show

It’s a great summery Friday and Marco Benevento‘s new single ‘At The Show’ is the jiggiest track we could wish for. ‘At The Show’ is the first cut lifted from the crafted multi-instrumentalist’s upcoming album Swift. The album, set for release on September 16th via Royal Potato Family, was produced by Richard Swift (Shins, Damien Jurado, Foxygen) and features Benevento’s frequent collaborators Dave Drewitz on bass (Ween) and Andy Borger on drums (Tom Waits, Norah Jones). With Swift, Benevento ventures into singing for the first time ever, and he wrote the lyrics as well. “I never really liked the sound of my singing voice. I have a low voice. I can’t really sing too high. It’s nasally,” said Benevento. “But I had to get over it. And now, singing is awesome.”
Listen to ‘At The Show’ below, and if you’re in North America, you can even watch the accompanying video, premiered yesterday. We’ll share it as soon as viewing is available in Europe.

To Rococo Rot’s eighth album, Instrument, out on Monday

To Rococo Rot - Classify feat. Arto Lindsay

We’re only a few days away from the release of Instrument, the brand new album from Berlin based trio To Rococo Rot. The album will see the light of day on July 21st via City Slang.
Founded in the 90’s by brothers Robert and Ronald Lippok and Stefan Schneide, and with eight albums under their belt, To Rococo Rot are adding vocals to an album for the first time. “I don’t know how it came but it came quite naturally. A lot of our music people say is longing for vocals,” said Robert Lippok. “We never felt like that but when we were in the rehearsal room and played the stuff we could hear these voices. Maybe because there were about 40 old pianos and when we played, all the strings of the pianos resonated. That made us feel that there should be a new and another element in this music. There was no discussion about it”. And also very naturally for them, To Rococo Rot recruited No Wave pioneer Arto Lindsay, who was himself a fan of the band. “He was totally into the idea from the first second on,” said Lippok “I really like the combination of the way he plays the guitar and the beauty of his voice. It’s magic how these two worlds come together”.
Lindsay guests on three tracks, ‘Many Descriptions’, ‘Classify’ and ‘The Longest Escalator in the World’. To Rococo Rot have premiered a befittingly beautiful video for the track ‘Classify’, made by Orson Sieverding & Pola Sieverding. Watch it below.

Coinciding with the release of Instrument, To Rococo Rot are playing a show on July 21st in London at Cafe Oto.
