Village Of The Sun return with debut album First Light; share new single ‘The Spanish Master’

Stop whatever you’re doing and listen: Village Of The Sun are back with their debut album. Entitled First Light, it follows their recent song ‘Tigris’ and their 2020 unrelenting and blistering double A-side single ‘Village Of The Sun’ / ‘Ted’. With a shared passion for improvised instrumental music, Village Of The Sun brings together the extraordinary combined talents Simon Ratcliffe of Basement Jaxx fame and London jazz trailblazers Binker Golding and Moses Boyd. Of the collaboration, Ratcliffe comments:

“I’ve always liked improvised instrumental music. It has this intensity and eccentricity that takes me places. It connects with me deeply and resonates with me far more than traditional ‘songs’ with words.”

First Light is set for release on November 25th through Gearbox Records and the trio have today shared the first single, the incendiary ‘The Spanish Master’. Turn up the volume and have a listen.

The next release on their Sdban Ultra roster comes from Brussels based octet M.CHUZI, who are putting out their debut album Papara. The title is taken from the practice of dipping bread in different sauces, and as the label puts it, the album “is an inviting mouthful of afro rhythms, funk, and prog jazz, combined with the spacey soundscapes of the Brussels metropole”.

Papara arrives on November 4th and ahead of it M.CHUZI have shared the zesty new single ‘Sambal’ along with an accompanying video directed by Maryam Kemal Hedayat. Watch it below.

Decius tease debut album with new single ‘Show Me No Tears’

Decius is the project of brothers Liam and Luke May, founders of Trashmouth Records, Quinn Whalley (Paranoid London/Warmduscher) and Fat White Family frontman Lias Saoudi. The four-piece, whose sound is described as “unwashed acid house and disco through a broken South London filter”, are gearing up to release their debut album, Decius Vol. I, in November.

Last week Decius dropped a new single from their upcoming record titled ‘Show Me No Tears’, featuring guest vocals from Madonnatron singer Maggie The Cat. The single is said to be “a tale of lust and control between a dominatrix and her prey”, and it comes with a video accompaniment made by Faboo TV’s Jeanie Crystal. Check it out below and watch out for the release of Decius Vol. I on November 4th through The Leaf Label.

Rosin de Palo’s debut album Lo que dura un recreo out now

We weren’t familiar with Spanish experimental power duo Rosin de Palo up until recently but they captured our interest instantly with their wild and exhilarating compositions flirting with various genres like funk, jazz, hard rock, dub, pop and electronica. Classically trained, Samuel Azorín and Mario Vidal, who make up the outfit, released their debut record, Lo que dura un recreo, earlier this year. A sonic experimentation at its finest, the album left us eager to see them live and needless to say that when that happened yesterday in Porto we were not disappointed. An adventurous duo at full tilt, Rosin de Palo’s show was thrilling and ridiculously fun, displaying their incredible talent, expansive vision and visceral energy. For a taster of the ride they offer, listen to a couple of tracks from Lo que dura un recreo, ‘TXÁ TXÁ UNBE UMDÓ’ and ‘Aquí están tus Satoshis’.

Lo que dura un recreo is out now through Lago/Cráter

Listen to tyroneisaacstuart’s new single ‘Knees’ ft. Moses Boyd & Theon Cross

tyroneisaacstuart seems to be a jack and master of all trades: saxophonist, rapper, dancer and producer – he does it all! This Autumn the London based multidisciplinary artist will release his debut album. Entitled S!CK, it is divided into three acts – GUMBO, Apology and Peace. According to the press release, the record “draws on the spirit of the traditional New Orleans dish to bring a mix of diasporic musical ingredients to tyroneisaacstuart’s work at the intersection of jazz, contemporary dance, and visual art.”

To bring S!CK to life, tyroneisaacstuart enlisted a cast of stellar collaborators including Moses Boyd, Theon Cross, Shirley Tetteh, Nikos Zarkias, Jamie Murray, Jack Polley, Reiss Ellis Beckles, Kwaku Aacht and Zuri Jarret-Boswell.

We’ll have to wait until November 11th for the album to be out through New Soil but we can now hear a transcending new cut from it called ‘Knees’, featuring Theon Cross on tuba pulse and Moses Boyd on drums. Speaking about the track, tyroneisaacstuart  comments:

”Knees means a lot to me because it was the first time I’d written a song using dance as a creative tool for songwriting. Some would know the quote/book “the body keeps the score”. I agree, it not only keeps the score which helps us tell the story. Our body is full of stories, and knees is a reminder be sensitive to that.”

‘Knees’ is offered with a sublime video, directed and co-choreographed by the man himself. Here it is.
