Battles unveil collaborative video for ‘Dot Net’

La Di Da Di, Battles‘s outstanding new album, came out last month, and they’re keeping us excited. The band have just unveiled a brilliant video for the album’s electrifying track ‘Dot Net’, directed by Ben Jones. The video is the first part of the Channel 4’s upcoming Random Acts series, consisting of collaborations between filmmakers and Warp artists. Due to be broadcast later in the year, the series also includes collaborations with Darkstar, Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawke.
Here’s what Dave Konopka from Battles said about this collaboration:
“Ben Jones and I went Massachusetts College of Art together in the 90s and I’ve been a huge fan of his work as both a solo artist and a member of Paper Rad ever since.
When Channel Four approached us about a collaboration with a visual artist, Ben Jones immediately came to mind because I have always thought that there would be a great synthesis of Ben’s experimental animation and Battles’ technicolor sounds–a joining of two forms that I have been wanting to make happen for years.
As luck would have it, when I reached out to Ben to see if he would be interested in collaborating, he had just finished installing a new solo show of some outstanding new work, which is featured throughout the Dot Net video. Through his incorporation of a live-action gallery scene intercut with his authentically one-of-a-kind animation, Ben made a video for Dot Net that is one of my favorite Battles video collaborations and absolute joy to watch over and over again.”

Explosions in the Sky and David Wingo score David Gordon Green’s new film Manglehorn

After scoring David Gordon Green’s film Prince Avalanche in 2013, Explosions in the Sky and composer David Wingo teamed up again to score Green’s new movie, Manglehorn, starring Al Pacino.
With very minimal guitar work included in the score, it sees Explosions In The Sky go back to their primary instrument, as the press release describes, “opting to harness that same emotional resonance from an array of percussive instruments”.
The good news is that Temporary Residence is putting out this magical soundtrack as a special limited edition. It drops on December 18th on CD and vinyl and it will be mail order exclusive. Pre-orders are now available so be quick to get yours.
Here’s a couple of wonderful tracks from Manglehorn‘s soundtrack, ‘Manglehorn Lock And Key’ and ‘Kylie And The Lion’.
Kristian Harting shares new single ‘Ship Of Fools’ ahead of album release

With just over two weeks from unveiling his second solo album, Summer Of Crush, Danish experimental singer/songwriter Kristian Harting has shared a new single off it called ‘Ship Of Fools’. The entire album was written, played and recorded by Harting himself, using guitars, loop pedals, a foot-operated synth and analogue electronics. Harting describes the album as, “Motown meets metal meets Morricone.” Speaking about the track, he said this:
“’Ship Of Fools’ is about abusing yourself in a system you know is bad for you but still fascinates and attracts you to a degree where you are willing to compromise yourself to be part of it. About knowing the world is on the brink of ecological disaster and you are still traveling around in airplanes, pouring plastic in the waste and eating pesticides. It’s about the driving force of Western capitalism fuelled by money and power, glam and cocaine, seducing and enslaving people and nature. I’m not a saint. I’m caught up in it. It’s everywhere I go. I try to breathe freely but everywhere are exhaust pipes.”
‘Ship Of Fools’ is a beautiful beast of a track. Listen to ir below and watch out for the release of Summer Of Crush on October 30th via Exile on Mainstream.
